Veloviewer Tile Bagging?

  • I've already done stuff like catch a train out and then ride back, just to see if it's feasible. Crossrail helps with that regards.

Osterley Park is probably going to require a walk. I think there's a paid area. We might ride down there, lock up and go wander around.

Barnes Wetlands, I've only clipped it on some other ride so don't have any tips for ya. Which tile is the tricky one?

  • OS suggests there is probably a public footpath at the top of that private one.

Hounslow in theory have their records online but it just goes to an error or an IIS8 default page (which is EOL) - :(

  • Cheers. I wonder if it's accessible from the other side? There is a red (walking track) behind Heston Community School on OSM.

Maybe since Brentford got promoted they're got tighter security around Brentford training ground? :)

  • The one North of the second 'n' of London. You can see the path you walk inside goes through all other 8 squares in the 3x3 that covers most of the Wetlands. Satellite view shows there are proper fences to keep you away from that last part of the centre.

Wyatt Drive is public but the little close in the bottom South West of it is private and gated. I may just keep an eye out for it ever being open and sneak in for a loop around the building at the far end.

  • Jonathan France's 82x82 stops at the Wetlands:

The PDF suggests you can't get to the middle or NW squares.

I can't work out how Jonathan France got the NW square.

  • Hmm. Thinking about it I seem to remmber going on a special guided walk that's gone between those two hides.

Not worried about it now as I'll only get those tiles when I next go to the Wetlands Centre, although MiniGB being a sulky teenager means she's less likely to be interested in going to see the ducks/otters/etc.

  • 7 bigguns and 139 littleuns on a quick blast to Streatham today.

  • Annoying. I'd cleaned up some stragglers so I was in a position to bump my square by maybe 4 but my unfit (because lazy) partner didn't want to ride home after the 100k yesterday so the expansion was halted.

You are the weakest link. Goodbye.

  • Finally broke the deadlock between my Chilterns and London squares by doing a few tiles round Borehamwood. The London square is now a nose in front.
next plan is a ride around reading to level things up again.
as they grow the centres of the squares are converging. Eventually they will coalesce in one big blob.

    You've met @hippy then?

  • We're almost neighbours. He's been living in my (literal) shadow for years :D

  • Well, I cleaned more tiles in the area than Jonathan France but I'm now blocked on all sides (of the little ones) by guarded private land. Looks like I need to move house. :D

  • Is Buckingham Palace gardens open to the public? Or is it like a special occasion thing you need to get tickets to get in for fucking high tea or something?

  • Relatives that have been tell me that summer opening, which is ticketed but anyone can buy a ticket, includes the gardens. I'm not sure if it includes enough of the gardens to get all the necessary squares though.

Edit: Apparently "Visitors can walk without restrictions amongst the sizeable plot of 39 acres." so should be all good but not for a few months.

  • JF has the squares so there must be a way in :)

"Explore the magnificent State Rooms which are open to visitors for 10 weeks each summer, and on selected dates for Exclusive Guided Tours during winter and spring. Dates for summer 2024 have not yet been announced."

Not sure I want to give that lot any more money though

  • Just nip over the wall.
If you get caught, you've got a good explanation.

  • Best to kick a ball over first, then explain you are retrieving your kid’s ball.

  • It used to be a good place for a bit of peaceful wild camping but then the state got embarrassed and made it extra illegal

  • peaceful wild camping

    Buck Palace?

  • Not sure that helps for

"one of the London residences of The Sultan of Brunei (The Aviary Farm in Windmill Lane)"

  • I'm not above playing the "little lost tourist" but considering I've already met security here and it's a massive property owned by a rich guy from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Brunei I think I might cut my losses.

Yes. There were a few cases of backpackers climbing the wall late at night and getting kicked out early in the morning with little more than a shouting at to not trespass. I can't find any online news articles for it though (would probably have to be an archive from pre-newspapers on web days) and it was a more innocent age (I remember it so probably late 80s or 90s).

There is this article about the 2007 change to make it illegal and not just trespass: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6492003.stm

  • Definitely more innocent times.

Protect the rich. Keep the sheeple's heads in their phones.

  • Without the ability to grow my local square though I'm kinda like "what's the point".
