Just looking at some of the old files I'm uploading - fuck I used to ride a lot! :D
-
• #553
Because of the Strava upload limits, it's been a bit slow backfilling rides but I've gone from
35006 squares
658 yards
9x9 squareto
39236 squares
1204 yards
19x19 ubersquareand for the first time in a very long time chose to ride my bike outside instead of drink beer.
17th for Squadrats
790th for Yards
1432 for Ubers (square)

What the fuck is squadrats?
When did you start using yards? It's obviously some American crap!Either get veloviewer, or move everything else over to miles to be consistent!

It's written by a Polish guy I think so not sure on the naming. Maybe he's based in the US.
It's free. Let me know how I can use Veloviewer for free and I'll happily move.
Mostly though...

Statshunters is free
-
• #557
Does it have a plugin that interfaces with RWGPS for route planning tile collection? Do I care enough to swap?
EDIT: Looks like maybe https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/statshunters/
Are the tiles the same? I mean they use the same OSM data so which app you use is just representing the same data in its own way, no?

Just installed it in Chrome and it killed the browser in about 20 seconds so that's not going well.
Let's try again...

Veloviewer for life. It’s about 2 beers a year.
-
• #560
That's two beers I can't be arsed giving up. Looks like statshunter hasn't shit the bed yet. But Squadrats looks nicer.
So far as I can tell, they're the same tiles so it's the same counts, etc, no?

I think Jack Peterson is in Squadrats and VV - what's his numbers in Veloviewer?
https://squadrats.com/map/pUWv4v3YR4RbXZzs3qUtd0FZXzl2/14
60859
12324
100x100https://veloviewer.com/athletes/154443/summary
(VV is slow as shit btw)60737 tiles
Max Cluster: 12321
Max square 100x100So, the numbers are basically the same and Squadrats looks nicer and runs way faster and is free.

Betamax was better than VHS
-
• #563
It might've been better quality but it was more expensive. So it depends how you define "better".
Squadrats is better. Now you know how I feel talking to you about disc brakes, dynamos, road tubeless, Di2 :P

With no 'tile bagging' mindset, you can see tonnes of holes where, if I'd just thrown in some variation, instead bashing up and down the same roads... #notanexplorer

Squadrats
Seems to have reached their Strava API limit. Apparently it will take 2 days to import my data.
-
• #566
Sorry about that. I probably used all their allowance :D
I think it said that to me too and it was done in about 2mins.
Strava is flakey as shit though. Even with their free user upload limit it's shat the bed a bunch of time doing uploads.

Statshunters has updated my squares on its own website but its plugin in Chrome with RWGPS isn't updating.
Squadrats plugin has updated as expected.
I wonder if its plugin has more aggressive caching than Squadrats one, which was pretty quick.
-
• #568
Apparently it only took 45 minutes.
-
• #569
Better than MS then.
MS: "This will be complete in 2mins"
Reality: 6 hours later... -
• #570
Statshunters plugin now appears up to date.

5 hours on London's Famous London's Famous Shithouse public transport for a 1hr walk to increase my square by... 1. Now I remember why I don't leave the house.

The mapping costs for the site ends up being a deciding factor. It goes something like:
Free site with small number of users falls into the free tier for map tile requests.
Site gets popular.
Starts to reach limit for free tier for tile requests.
Next tier costs money.
Site owner is forced to charge individual users or eat considerable mapping costs.
...
Individuals see £10 for Veloviewer as better value as it is a more complete site. -

Since they're the same tiles, it doesn't really matter to me does it? At the moment Strava (free) is the limiter anyway.
I just keep switching tile mapping providers until the dust settles or I lose interest (or I write my own, LOLz).

1hr walk
You do know this is a cycling forum...?
-
• #575
You miss the memo? It's all about hike-a-bike these days.
"If you can ride it, is it really a proper ride?"
Need to test my new MTB shoes in advance of L’esperit de Girona.
The secondary goal was to drink in Mad Squirrel but it was shut by the time we got back, thanks to shithouse public transport and every arsehole driving in London.
I'm not paying for this though.
