3.45pm and no sign of Steve so far today on the live tracker. It was a late night last night (3.15am according to the tracker).
Might be a tracker issue. From someone on yacf:
"I got a reply via fb message from Idai; he says he saw him this morning and he's ok. No further details."

So I'm not sure I believe Bruce re Guinness, for a number of reasons:
- I understood that Guinness had refused to touch The Year as now being to dangerous.
- Even if Guinness do decide to play (as they are happy to do with the Womens it seems) Bruce has, by his own admissions, failed to comply with what Guinness require (from Kajsa's website:
No slip streaming is allowed. This means you have to ride either beside me, behind me, or 3 car-lengths in front of me
)
Given that Bruce has been boasting about the pro teams that he's been out riding with, that would seem to push him out for a Guinness record at the moment... - I understood that Guinness had refused to touch The Year as now being to dangerous.

Yet the link states that Guinness refusing to touch it as being too dangerous was a myth.
Also Guinness recognise Godwin's record, which was done with drafting: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/greatest-distance-cycled-in-a-year
Nothing is what it seems, it seems.

Missed this as a busy day at work yesterday. Makes me sad Steve not riding his bike.

57.8km upload for yesterday which was the end of Tuesday's ride (after midnight).
Looks like he took yesterday off for some reason. Hope all is ok.

Looking ominous. A tracker issue would explain no activity there but no Strava upload doesn't bode well at all.

He's also claimed to have Guinness Week and Month distance records and yet I don't see either of those in his name yet.

"Berkeley is already a holder of two Guinness World Records – for the greatest distances cycled in a week and in a month, set respectively in 2014 and 2015."

They do change the rules though.

Except that the Guinness record for the
weekmonth is held by someone (Janet) who rode a shorter distance than Bruce but did it well after Bruce did his. You'd think that if Bruce did his first (and went further) it would be up there.I can quite imagine Guinness being utterly shite at admin though. Or maybe Guinness just didn't ratify Bruce's efforts.

• #1441
I can't even find the week record, only the month one and that's on their site as being held by Janet.

Sorry, meant Month not week.

Comment from Steve on his FB page:
"Just a quick message to let everyone know Steve's okay, although the tracker isn't showing."

From Bruce's FB page;
Hi everyone – I felt that you were all due an explanation of the issues I have had with HAMR and the ‘official’ record status.
Firstly, I would like to thank all of you for your on-going support. It really gives me energy to keep pushing. Thank you. Thanks also to my sponsors who have been great in helping me with this record attempt.
Prior to starting the record attempt, I was contacted by a number of people who recommended HAMR but I would need to register with them in order for them to officiate. I wondered as to how that would benefit me as a rider – as I am already being ‘officiated’ by Guinness – who are World renowned with record attempts and validation. However, after some thought, I conceded and explained to HAMR that I would like to join them and appear on their league tables.
At this stage, I was informed that there was a $300 registration fee. It seemed steep, but I paid.
I commenced the record attempt on January 1st. Since then I was contacted by HAMR to explain that I also needed to pay my annual membership fee – another $30. I had assumed this would be covered in the previous payment of $300 – it wasn’t. I was also informed that in addition to my Garmin, I would need to provide a live tracking device. I offered a iPhone based app (Find my Friend) which would enable the organisation to verifiy my Garmin records.
I was informed that this would not be acceptable as they required me to provide a tracking device that ALL MEMBERS of the group could follow. Real time. I was also told that a single piece of technology would acceptable – a further $200
From a personal security perspective, I have a major issue with every single member of the public able to know exactly where I am (more importantly – where I am not) at any time of the day. My living space will be compromised, and there is no ‘Privacy Zone’ setting. I have no issue in any single member of the HAMR organisation using a tracking device for me – but not the general public.
Further to this – I provided an excellent means of doing this, but it was found to be unacceptable. I don’t have the money or the desire to purchase an additional device. I also feel that my $300 should have been sufficient to cover all fees for a self-appointed organisation.
Please also bear in mind that all of this is going on WHILE I am trying to ride 340km a day, with no support. 11-13hrs in the saddle leaves little time for admin or discussion.
As such, I was informed that I had been disqualified by HAMR – ironically, given I had not paid the $30 membership fee, I assume I was never actually registered to be disqualified anyway.
It is a shame – but it takes nothing away from my attempt. I feel that HAMR should be encouraging me, not providing road-blocks.
Thank you for understanding. And for taking the time to read this and also supporting me. It means a lot to me. The attempt will continue with Guinness providing validation.
Tommy Goodwin probably owes HAMR $300 too

Is probably the big sticking point. The UMCA have indicated that live tracking being public is almost a requirement. From the earlier correspondence the UMCA said (my emphasis):-
You definitely need to get the Spot tracker for the following reasons.
- Spot will allow open access. Any neutral observer can go to the Spot website and track your rides, as opposed to the Find My Friends app which requires a friend request to be approved. Spot will serve the fan base of ultracycling better as well as serve you better; once your attempt begins, you do not need to spend any time approving friend requests for the live tracker, nor should the ultracycling fan base need to wait for approval. Even as simple as the process may be, we do not want to deter observers in the least.

So, now I wonder what Guinness's requirements are for attempting this record.

Can anyone find the Yearly Distance Record on their site?

The button next to it leaves you at a form for logging in, ICNBA to create an account to find out what was next.

Please make sure you follow ALL these rules:
a. The attempt must take place in a public place or in a venue open to public inspection.
b. The event is continuous. The clock does not stop. One year means a complete 365 day cycle including rest breaks.
c. Participants may take a pause or break during the attempt but the clock will not stop under any circumstance.
d. A loud start and finish signal recognized by all participants must be used.
e. A log book must be compiled detailing the tasks achieved.
f. No person under the age of 16 may attempt this record. Persons aged between 16 and 18 must be in possession of a document signed by their parent or legal guardian, giving them permission to compete. This must be added to the log book and witnessed before the attempt has started.
g. The attempt must be overseen by two independent witnesses. Please make sure you supply the following evidence:
• One cover letter explaining the context of the record attempt. Please indicate the date, time and exact location of the record attempt, your chosen witnesses and your record attempt measurement. Also please provide full details of the person(s)/organisation attempting the record including details on the preparation for the attempt.
• Two independent witness statements must be provided confirming that the rules above have been adhered to and must explicitly state the number of times the activity has been performed.
• A detailed log book must be submitted containing all required information about when and where each of the activities took place.
• Photographic evidence of your attempt taking place capturing the details provided by the independent witnesses.
• Video evidence of the entire record attempt, from start to finish that enables us to confirm the measurement achieved, that the guidelines have been adhered to and verify the details provided by the independent witnesses.
• Schedule 2 should be signed by you when you are sending in evidence which you either own or have permission to allow Guinness World Records to use.
• If you include any photographs or video in your evidence which you do not own or have permission to allow Guinness World Records to use, then you must include Schedule 3.
• Media articles (newspaper, online, TV or radio) should be submitted as part of the evidence requirements. This is not compulsory evidence. Please read the Guide to Your Evidence document, where you will find further information about the evidence requirements and evidence templates. It is paramount this document is read before you submit your evidence.

I can't be arsed waiting for it to be approved to get the requirements doc from them. Basically, it's up to the rider to prove they've done what they said they've done. I'd be very wary of choosing not to use Live Tracking in case they look down on this as unwitnessed by enough independent people.
Full disclosure from the UMCA on Bruce's situation (link to yacf: https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=93962.msg1976792#msg1976792 )
They told him that his Live Tracking solution (Find My Friends) wasn't good enough as it wasn't public (he needed to add people as friends to be able to see where he was) and didn't keep a log, and they asked him to get a SPOT tracker.
They also told him that had hadn't joined UMCA and he promised to sort it on several occasions.
After two weeks of not sorting both tracking and membership (and plenty of emails and one official warning) he was DQ'd.
