I saw this, and was tempted, but as i have a road bike sat in the basement awaiting seatpost (and maybe stem) removal, due to my own errors, i'm glad i didn't go for it. Northwich is terrible, but the peaks aren't far away

But seriously, how dare you!? Northwich is a nice place to come back to every now and again. Decent place to grow up as well, near enough to the peaks, North Wales, Lake District. Lots of lakes and nature reserves, and the forest...
I bet you're from Winsford!

As suggested earlier: +1284 for vice.
Shame you cut the top of the post off. It might still work. Invert bike/ frame. Tighten top of post in vice. You might wreck the post. Then use all the lovely leverage of the frame/ bike to turn the the post free.

Tried it this morning.
The vice doesn't get enough purchase on the seatpost to twist it, it was just slipping around and gnarling it even more. If I hadn't cut the top off, as TM has repeatedly pointed out, it probably would have worked. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Sorry to have harped on about it.
What about with that nail through it? Does will the vice grip around that?

TBH i've only ever been through Northwich, so my opinion is probably skewed. I am racing there in early October though.

I'm from Chester. When I was younger we never liked people from Northwich. Don't really know why.

The only time i've been to northwich was for a house party in some proper massive posh house and we kicked in loads of garden fences and destroyed a bunch of peoples gardens then had to hide in bushes from very (understandably) angry neighbours at 4am.
Oh to be 16 again.

Have blowtorch, can travel.
-
• #62
Have you done it before?
-
• #63
Not on a bike frame, done it on seized car bolts a few times. There's a first for everything though, right?
-

there was a suggestion on GCN of pouring boiling water onto the seatpost repeatedly for about an hour, but I guess even if you did loosen it that way, then you might still not be able to get enough purchase on the stump. might be worth trying though before you get the blowtorches out

also was on a carbon frame, may be different

My current thinking is that I'm just going to take it to Armourtex at the start of next week, get them to remove it and powdercoat it zinc yellow (RAL 1018) while they're at it.

Probably because we were all scallies back then.
I was born in Chester and support Chester FC, but I didn't meet a lot of Cestrians till sixth form, when their parents decided they'd paid enough for their schooling and sent them to our sixth form college in Northwich instead. That was quite good, just the right time to get to know people whose parents had empty houses on the coast in North Wales.

use a combination of heat an penetrating oil.
Heat up, apply oil. As it cools the oil is drawn into cavities helping it come loose.

Can't they powder coat fadez?
-
• #69
Just get armortex to do it. You've already done a 'job' on it!

I don't think so. If they did, hot pink -> midnight blue for sure.
Vaz job would be great, but would be half what I paid for the bike again. It's not going to be a show bike, so I don't think I can really afford it. Should have gone for mad fadez on my road bike.

I sheepishly told them on the phone what sort of attacks I'd made on it and what state it was in now. The fact that they just left and reassured me that no seatpost had beaten them yet is what's making me want to go for it.

Pretty sure you can fade with powder, so maybe ask them in case? pink to blue would be larrvvvvellllllyyyyyyyy...............

I went to John Deanes, left in 2006.
My secret answer is Plums and my PIN code is 7841.
I've heated stuff up by holding it over a gas cooker as well, worth a last ditch try to get you rolling?
