File the sides of the post flat, then put in vice and twist. Or just buy a cheap kitchen blowtorch, that post is aluminium so won't take much to break the bond.

So, I decided it's going to be orange.

Good choice Tommmmmmm. Orange bikes rock.

Is the seatpost out yet?
-
• #81
Armourtex are doing that too. So maybe it has been done by now...
-
• #82
Also, am I likely to get away with not having the BB shell and headtube faced? What's the worst-case scenario there?
-
• #83
^you can "get away with it" more so on bb shell than headtube but it will greatly reduce bottom bracket life and headtube life, it's worth spending £20 or so and getting it done tbh rather than spending £50 in the long run on new bb and headset

Are you running internal or external bearing BB? If external omnomnomns or whatever, definitely get it faced. If you're going for normal square taper BB, you could get away without doing it, but you'd probably want the threads chased anyway.

Not so keen on their Donohue decals, they're not the same as the ones that were on it before and look a bit more old-fashioned.
Armourtex charge £45 for facing, which seems a bit steep seeing as the last time I had it done it cost me four beers. But that might be the going rate I suppose.

Just out of curiosity did you work your way through the Sheldon 14pt List systematically? It's always the best way.*
Just on the hacksaw method. I found it easier to use a jigsaw if you have access to one. It means you can stick the blade down the tube gently and cut it towards the seat tube. As you get to the last bit get an old screwdriver, sharpen it and then cut into the last bit of the seatpost. If that makes sense.
In terms of heat, you can sometimes bodge this yourself with lots of ice followed by pouring boiling water over.
*(sorry if that comes across as a bit I told you so)

You could just get someone (Roboto?) to vectorise the Donohue logo and cut you some vinyl? Cheap and cheerful.
Not sure about orange, is it flat orange or you getting metallic clear coat? what colour decals? Purple?

As I think I mentioned elsewhere, rather than systematically going through the 14 methods, which I would have tried if I had time, I went straight for the sawing method after twisting failed, as I wanted something as foolproof as it gets with regards to seatpost removal. The sharpened screwdriver idea is really good, should have tried that for the tricky last bits.

I may call on Roboto's services again, not sure what colour though. The orange is hopefully quite a dark, burnt orange kind of colour, it's a gloss powder so it might be a bit shiny, but with no lacquer.

Armourtex are really expensive for facing- I was going to use them for the sake of convenience, but balked at the price.
-
• #93
Where did you go instead?
-
• #94
I bought a coffee in Cadence and they did it for free whilst I chatted to them- bit far for you maybe?
I predict that CS would do it for you if you asked nicely.

My old branch doesn't have the tools, I'm hoping the workshop manager at the shop round the corner will still work for beer.
-

The seatpost is gone! Apparently it put up quite a fight. I quite like the colour.
-
• #97
Congrats, it's been a journey.
shame the eyelets survived.
-
• #98
Ha. Time and money didn't allow for their removal
-
• #99
Money? Files are cheap fam.
I put a 5r on you using them to fit mudguards over winter, the shame...

How much did Armoutex charge?
Same college as my wife, few years later though. Small word!
