  • boo... I'm going whatever, it's not all about the ride :)

True. But the ride is the focul point of my trip.

It looks like l'eroica 2013 will be a lottery for riders.

not happy about this... I have no idea how many riders they had to turn down last year but the chance of missing out is not at all making me happy. what would be the reasoning behind this? I have sent an e-mail to the organisation with some questions, will share if I get a response.

  • good stuff
    seems senseless

I think this is the problem. In they had to turn away a lot of people that are not italian.
Plus there are always people that won't or can't turn up as lots change from registration in March to the actual ride in October.
Which i think has led to this proposal of a lottery so it allows people to attend the ride that other wise can't as they missed out in previous attempts to register.
Last year there seemed to be a lot of people complaining about people on the rides that had not registered and stopped off at the feed stations to help themselves.
I will probably attend wether i get a number or not. As the whole experience is a jolly up and a bit of a holiday for me.
Good luck to all of you on registration.

  • Fuck it. Don't let it put you off. the town and roads and fun are free to all. So, you don't get a reg number and have to make alternate plans for your food. Dress up, go along with the crowd Spend the €40 registration fee on fancy lunches in the various towns and villages along the way instead. Coupled with the amazing countryside, fine wine, bike market, atmosphere I really don't think it's the end of the world.

  • Just booked a (cancellable, no money up front) hotel in Radda on Booking.com for Thursday to Tuesday...Suggest others do the same so they at least have the option

  • "Men over 60 years and all women have the the opportunity to sign up from 1 February to 30 June"

So us ladies are sorted, but it will be rubbish if no one else gets in. :(

  • @tapsnbath maybe I can be your +1 then?

if we can't get places on L'eroica I met friends of the guys who has set up www.lintrepida.it - he was one of the guys who originally set up L'eroica ('before it became too commercial') ;) - lets go for that?

@tilover you'll have these probs in a couple of years for t'eroica

also +1 on just riding anyway....

  • Well I'll be trying to register - but if its to no avail I'll be there anyway. Public roads, get dressed properly, polish the steed, carradice saddlebag stuffed with food and water. Eat in Brolio / Montalcino / Radda / Panzano etc using your $40 you didn't have to spend... Wouldn't want to take the piss by taking advantage of food stops etc but would hate to miss out on the weekend. I could live without a photo and chunk of cheese.

  • ^ that's the spirit :-)

  • I'm a great gatecrasher

  • looking back at my photo of the 2009 riders list, only 17% (393) were foreigners and there were only meant to be 800 foreigners last year, of which there must have been a degree of over 60s.
Though its clearly more globally popular and commercial now, i think we stand a pretty good chance of getting in, and the under 60 Italians probably feel hardest done by.
    Roll on the lottery.

Yeah, under 60's Italian's are really shafted.

Although there were only 800 non-nationals under 60 last year and 1000 this year. All of those 800 spaces were booked up in less than 10 hours. imagine how many applicants they'll have with the registration/lottery entry being open for nearly 6 weeks. Thousands I'll bet. I give us anywhere between 30%-50% chance of getting in.

  • this was a good craic last year

are you 'avin it this year?

  • :).......Fankz Mista , dunno yet, its a 900 mile round trip from London,if there was an airport really close I would.Have your scars healed?

  • He He, a ride ain't a ride if you don't get a mars bar )
I thought they other riders there were a good craic also
It's closer to you than me I think no?
    What about Ronde Vlander one?

  • they sent me the regolamento in English, see attached pdf

just hoping the amount of starting licenses roughly covers the amount of nuts aspiring to ride it

  • Thanks, reading it now.

  • I have flights & hotel already booked & will be going whatever. I'll register and hope to get a place but if not then will roll up and ride anyway. I'm not looking to be a free-loader and want to pay but if I don't get a space I ain't missing out.

Interested to hear from others that have ridden before what's the score with non-registered riders on previous editions?

  • Registered last night. The web site lets you list other riders so you CAN all register in a group so no worries about groups getting split by individual applications.

  • entered the lottery as well!

  • entered as well! Fingers crossed; but whatever turns out it will be great!

  • I've entered too. Anyone who has done this before - the idea of doing it fixed is a terrible one, right? Time to build something!
