I've just re-watched the end of the thing.

The crowd went mental for Wiggins. Just fucking bonkers.

Not just banging the boards, but it looked like some orgasmic mosh pit.

I just watched it again, it was a wave, not a mexican wave, a Wiggins wave. Years ago on my first 10 speed racer a cabby once shouted "who do you think you are, Eddy Merckx" now they will all genially shout "Oi Wiggo" at us, as they move over to let us pass.

Back home from Bushy Park. Atmosphere was brilliant - and the crowd was all walks of life - not just cycling geeks.

Work advised us to not stream live from the BBC, as it might take down 'thinternet and critical systems (in a hospital). After ringing around in excitement afterwards it seems everyone stopped for an hour whilst streaming BBC coverage.

It must have been super special to be there. I watched it on a dodgy stream on a shonky connection in rural France and it was still tremendous. The crowds in Kingston looked like those atop some alpine col. Even my mum phoned and said she'd watched the end through tears. Marvellous stuff!

The man's an absolute legend. Loved all the fans cheering him from outside the studio.
