  • True.

  • Carbon clincher on the rear would be ok- no braking to deal with.

  • Front disc hub with bolt on sprocket, could get you under 6kg according to that wheelbuild, I think.

  • Bolt on does look lighter:

  • Hmm, is that image working for anyone?

  • Meh.

  • jeez i'd be afraid to ride a bike that light! good stuff though!
& bolted cogs all day! just ordered my first after unlocking every track hub i've ever owned haha

  • picture and link are working. with this hub the rear wheel would be around 661g, would save 329g, total would be 6.02kg. but is the bolt on cog+screws same weight as a cog and lock ring?

  • Not a lot in it:

yeah but the axle adds up also

  • Axle and 20mm worth of spacers, I imagine the sprocket could be lighter without the threaded section.

  • are you skidding on it or is that a purely track bike?
you could go 42x14, same ratio

would be quite cool if the AC conversion kits were compatible!

  • Now I'm tempted to build a pair of these, using the Kinlins.

  • What is your weight? Some wheel builders do not recommend Kinlin xr-200 at all for riders over 85kg.

  • what's that in olde world weight?

  • Fat

that's the reason why i can't use those light rims with my 94kg

    85kg = 187lbs

    I prefer "sprinter build".

  • You could use them as a special wheelset but I wouldn't be commuting on them.

  • Zipp 404's have a recommended max of 255 lbs, or 115 kg.

Deep carbon rims can be very light and also strong.

Of course, they are not cheap, but the known issues that carbon clinchers have with regards to chucking the tyre off under breaking aren't an issue here as you won't be using a brake on them.

the thing with carbon clinchers are that they are heavier then a velocity aerohead o/c and due to custom fees it's more stressful and expensiv to order them from asia (from germany)
