  • I would always recommend these:

I've had 3 pairs and prefer them to shoes with a ratchet system.

damn no privateers in my size but the Giro carbides look nice and cheap

  • mavic rush

  • found and ordered Giro Gauge for £85 (plus 4.95 postage, royal mail special delivery) from here:

delivered this morning with hand written "thank you" note
    very happy

  • When my Sidis go I'll go back to some velcro Shimanos, stay tight for longer and are a more relaxed fit

  • Shimano R107 shoes are interesting; can run SPD-SL and SPD/ATAC on the same shoe with a crabon plate under the cleat area keeping things stiff and velcro/ratchet upper and all for £80

I tried these on - the fit is peculiar with a really wide/square toe box and a massive arch/overall curve that keeps going past the ball of any human's foot.

  • Got a friend who has wide feet (a G in old Clarks shoes money, whereas most peoples were a C) and is looking for shoes which are known to work well for those wide of foot..

Quick scan above seems to be Northwave are a goer, anymore for anymore?

  • Mavic in their wide sizes, I have a 10 wide in the rush/razor and I love them.

  • Some Giro shoes come in HV (High Volume) which equates to a larger toe box and wider sole across the ball of the foot.

Most people were an F (80%), and E was the next most common. I was a D, and it was hard to find stuff in stock at times. I'm talking 1970s here.

  • BMMF, my friend must have remembered wrongly.
Gonna send him over to Sigma Sport so he can try on some Mavic/Northwave and Giro wide foot shoes.

    My work here is done..

  • Carnac used to be popular with the wide foot brigade.

  • Try Fizik too. Big toe boxes (oo-er)

  • In the market for some new shoes, anyone got any recommendations for some MTB shoes with a rachet and preferably a Fluro colour way? I wear a tonne of black so I quite fancy some contrast whilst on the bike.

    I'd recommend http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-m20c-carbon-mountain-bike-cycling-shoe/

Carbon MTB stiff soles for a less than £100 which is nice. I tried them out and I should've bought them. Ended up getting Shimano's which are decent. No major complaints. A few niggling things like ratcheting system is not as tough as I would've liked and the position of the cleat is not as far forward as I would've liked. But hey that's what road shoes are for.

Next purchase are a pair of some road shoes with keo pedals. They give a much greater power transfer but as we all know walking in road shoes is impossible but riding is more efficient and I prefer it when I put the foot down.

Thinking of getting these. Anyone have them?

Go to a shop and try some on.

  • DREDGE. I'm looking for shoes to use with time atac pedals. I've only used SPD-SL before and they're terrible to walk in. Would something more casual like chrome kursk be easier to walk in etc than "proper" shoes like giro privateers?

  • Even MTB shoes is easier to walk than road clipless, go to a shop and try out the selection.

If you're comfortable with your current shoes, worth finding an MTB version of it.

  • I've just bought a pair of chrome midway pro , comfy to walk in too !

  • Picked up some giro empires on ebay for an absolute bargain,

    my lord are they comfy

  • Alright team - My Sidi's are great, but they are just a little tight and after 170km yesterday I find myself looking for a better fit. I know Northwaves are pretty wide, how to Giro and Specialised size up in comparison to Sidis?

I've got wide, flat feet, but not quite wide enough for wide-fit shoes. I have some Mega Dominators and they're slightly too high-volume...

Tempted by either the Factors or the S-Works Road. It's annoying because I ride in Speedplays, and my current Sidi's are Speedplay specific, but comfort trumps stack height...

Also, annoyingly, my feet have a variation in size which is quite noticeable after a lot of riding. I'll have to pass it by Scherrit, who did a lot of work to get my insoles right, but does the hivemind think that custom moulded insoles will be useful in accommodating that difference?

  • My Giro in 44 fit similar to my Sidi in 45.

Spes is quite narrow, found it uncomfortable (44)
