i went halfway with these guys today. a last minute decision made when they turned up at the Flask last night. when i left them (39 miles to Dover) spirits were ok, they weren't lost, had plenty of drink, snacks left. they weren't going as fast as expected cause of the rolling hills of Kent but were clearly going to go the distance no problem :)

Today they rode from London to Dover and should in theory be setting up camp somewhere in Bourbourg in France.

At the freezer applying ice to his knee? I am giving my knee a rest as well Dan, if that cheers you up.

Greenracer - they'll be almost at the campsite in Bourbourg. or if they got the later ferry they'll be on it

Cheers Ludwig! Your misfortune wouldn't cheer me up though! Hope yours improves soon.
I'll be right as rain in a few days.

On Day 1 we had just finished a drag into a headwind and stopped for a breather on a country lane in the middle of nowhere.
As if by magic, an ice cream van appeared who we duly flagged down and raided.
There was also a sheep who sounded like it was shouting "Jess! Jess!"
Ha! I completely forgot about the sheep. Had to be one of the highlights of the day

hmm, not sure you were obliged to comply, but i'm no student of the law. and sometimes you just want to be rid of these people, more than you want to make a principled point!

That would make me so angry.
I was given this tshirt as a gift recently. I wonder what he would have said if you were wearing this?

From Mothergirl's Facebook
"We have arrived in France - riding over 200 miles in 2 days!! 6 times I've fallen over clipped in to my bike with 3 very heavy bags, 2 very stiff legs and 1 very sore bum! Thankyou Dan, Marcus, Ash, Neil, Simon, Tom, Sarah and especially Xander for being amazing. We're off to Bruges tomorrow, cant wait. Donate, donate, donate!!!!"

Its amazing how you can ride through an area and not realise exactly where you are. One of my favourite hill climbs and descents (as introduced to me by Fox) is just up the road from there.
If I had known I might have made a quick detour!
Check out this view from the top

best place in the area to go sledging. fact. Although on the other side of the hill with the Tor is what looks like ( when covered in snow) a ramp, which is in fact a set of steps... the pain that followed this realisation was immense. Burton Dasset, nice.

UK Leg officially over with only a little bit of drama.
"Ok, the uk leg of 200 miles is now over and it has been a blast, it wouldnt have been half as good without the help of ash, si, marcus, tom, sarah, dan and xander. Were now in dunkerqe, after an eventful day, my stem has completely snapped in dover, but will be fixed tomorrow and we'll be on our way once again! A total os now at exactly 3000, thanks for the donations"
All eyes on main thread under BrumFGSS for updates.

Really want to know how they managed to snap a stem. Too much power?!
-
• #122
Too much pulling on the bars dragging all that luggage uphill I would have thought.
-
• #123
Too much as in, too much for a weakened or defective stem

Burton Dasset is a great place! That photo is surprisingly lacking in sheep though!
Jess has put out a request on Facebook about an hour ago, any one help out with this?
Help friends, does anybody know anyone who lives in Brussels?!
