You can turn off virtual partner screen
-
• #1953
Yes but you still get a little arrow Man on the map screen, of where you 'should' be.
-
• #1954
Dead pixel on screen.
Send it back and get new model (if it less than a month old).
-
• #1955
Won't it have a 1 year warranty, like most things? Why 1 month?
-
• #1956
Pixels are often not covered under warranty and are just acceptable.
But anyway discovered a huge issue with 1000 today.
If you're navigating a course with turn by turn on, but leave the course (say a road is closed so you go around) then re join course, garmin will register you're back on the course but does not pick up turn by turn.
It gets worse.
So stop course, re start course hoping garmin will pick up the course from where you are. No, it does, but then it throws a fit and registers your distance from the start and wants you to go to start. So no turn by turn.
So had to just load course and sit on the map screen, chewed threw my battery.
I'm going to email garmin. But as far as I'm concerned it's now a paperweight. The 800 and 810 never did this.
Jesus they just can't make a product that works. -

You have been warned.
Too late!
What issues can I expect?

I actually experience this with the Garmin Touring, very very fustrating and end up having to use the map screen to follow it.
Somehow I think this is an unique Garmin features that they don't view as a fault.

Does your etrex do it?
My old 810 would pick back up the course and continue turnbyturn. -
• #1960
I haven't try this turn by turn navigation on the eTrex, I just show it on map all the time.
Reckon it's the latest firmware that does it?
-
• #1961
No idea about latest firmware. But garmin 1000 firmware.
Can you please try etrex and let me know?
Just make a course and deviate from it then come back on and see if it continues with turn by turn.
Then also load a course midway through it and see if it does turn by turn from current location.
Would appreciate! -
• #1962
My 800 resumes turn by turn, will try on my etrex but i usually just follow the large pointer.
-
• #1963
The etrex does not have courses per se, it uses gpx tracks and gpx routes and treats them differently unlike the edge series which essentially treats them as the same thing.

Had this on The London Classic today. Along with its other fave feature of turning auto route recalculation on even when I've switched it to 'off' so my carefully preplanned route gets recalculated when I go off course - stopping at a cafe for instance.
I hate the damn thing. So infuriating as it works perfectly about 60% of the time, but the 40% means I can't trust it.

Does the GLONASS on the 510 make it more accurate / quicker to locate a signal than the 810 without? Any other differences apart from the maps on the 810?
-
• #1967
It does, a combine GPS/GLONASS make a significant difference, it been discussed between pages 68/69.
-
• #1968
Hmm I see. Not sure how true this is, but interesting still:
Also kind of cool it's a Russian system. Makes me feel like a cycling mafioso / spy thriller bad guy.

Master re-set this morning.
Replace the Settings.fit file in to Newfiles to get my activity profiles back.
doesn't replace my old settings.
FUUU.
Garmin in the bit. How I wish there was a decent alternative.
-
• #1970
You need to replace the file in its original location. Which i think is the settings directory and reboot.
-
• #1971
Yeah i Did that before...
Then I read > http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B87d71a10-4ac5-11e2-e8a7-000000000000%7D -

Does anyone know of an issue with the 810 screen freezing when GPS signal is lost? Is there a fix?
-
• #1973
Skinny.
The auto-Lock issue should og away With recent updates. But appears to be linked to the attempt to upload a route. I cant help. But you arent to only person to experiance this at least.
My 920xt lost my powermeter mid race (well test race thingie). Never missed a beat before. Then when I really want it, it has a brain fart. I was pacing my pulls on power nicely for once. I dont have much paceline riding data. So I'm pissed at it retrospectivily too. It knows I'm annoyed and behaved amazingly at the pool yesterday.
-
• #1974
Can you put the 510 in your pocket and use it for running with the heart rate strap?
-
• #1975
Yes - but it will bump around if the pocket is not 'tight'.
That'd be why I couldn't find an option then! Thanks.
