Any idea where I can get a USB to mini USB cable 30cm for the external battery pack?

Should add in London NOW.

Looks good. Think I might get myself an 810 though so I can use my external battery packs (without an adapter).

Audax? is that the 1000?

Just some crazy guy on a ride.
Yeah 1000. -

Strava is killing my iPhone battery, so want a Garmin.
500 / 510 / 800 / 810?
Don't really need the map navigation. Would like to record all my stats and have the HR strap and cadence. Is the 500 more reliable than the 510? 510 better GPS signal / connectivity? Any particular features that make it worth £70-80 more? Is the current Garmin firmware decent or problematic?

500 will do fine

510/810 have the advantage of uploading your ride via bluetooth to your iPhone.
If you want to use it to navigate, 810.

If you want to plan your route in a browser at home, and let the Garmin navigate it for you, 200/500/510 will do.

Anecdotal evidence from a sample of one, but my 500 is a PITA. Regularly takes 2-3 minutes to get a location even though it's in exactly the same place I turned it off a few hours before. Maybe its a bit of a duffer, but my experience of the 510 (I don't own one, but I've used one) is that it's a considerable improvement.
But if you don't need it to connect with a power meter, and just need cadence and HRM, why not get a 200 instead?

30% into a training race, and my garmin farts and loses my PM. Sorted now. But I was pretty pissed at the time. Really wanted it to pace my pulls in the heavy winds. Bah.

I prefer RPE when having a pull into the wind...

How do you get the instructions for these? Is it turn by turn? I'm guessing there are no maps?
-
• #1941
Export to TCX - drop the file in NewFolder - turn on Garmin

Oh god, Garmin Express auto-updated to a new version.
What could go wrong? I'm sure it's been tested thoroughly.

Cheers @freezing77, that was what I was after.
@Thuekr thanks, I didn't word the question properly. I don't have a Garmin yet but I wanted to see how it gave you directions without a map.

Here's a (semi) related question.
On the 500 when using Courses is it possible to turn off the Virtual Partner screen? A check through last time I had to follow a course didn't yield an obvious answer.

To quote ridewithgps
"Unfortunately, you cannot turn off the Virtual Partner on the Edge 500." -
• #1948
Don't upgrade to 3.4 or 3.5.
You have been warned.

My 1000 is already starting to be irritating.
Locked the screen on its own accord.
Touch screen being temperamental
Dead pixel on screen.
I don't care about virtual partner so go away
I don't care about segments so don't put them on automatically
I don't care a set a new pb so don't bother. On the plus side, battery seems fair. 10h without the backlight but using power meter and glonas navigating a route.
Yes, people using Macs is a common problem.
