  • Handmade leather shoes with free pub carpet?

  • Is the pub carpet sticky with cheap lager, tears and shattered dreams?

  • Is the pub carpet sticky with cheap lager, tears and shattered dreams?

seeing as they are murtles, I think it's safe to say yes.

  • grrr!!!

  • that is beautiful jason, thanks for posting it.

  • yeah, thanks a lot

  • thanks for posting.

  • I need shoes for work. It's a new job, comically smartly dressed and everything has to be perfect.
I have about £250 to spend on a pair of black shoes, Oxford or Half Brogue I guess, they need a toecap.
Any ideas? I don't start work until the second week of January, so I've a bit of time to wait for mail order, or should I hang on until January sales?
I have a couple of pairs of Sanders which seem to suit my feet pretty well.

  • A lot of retailers have already gone into sale.

Pop into Liberty, they had a few decent pairs of brogues/smart shoes.

Could also check out, Meermin.es - who make lovely shoes (I always recommend them as they are great value and lovely)

  • Classic suspects would be Church's, Barker and Loake, each does a couple of oxford styles on different lasts so its down to the subtleties of what you prefer.

I tried them all a couple of years back and settled on the Loake Cagney, slightly more modern style but suits me fine, feels great and is wearing nicely.

  • It's a great time of year to be buying shoes as well :)

  • Hmm, looks like a trip to the west end this afternoon then.
Style update - correct dress is "plain toed Oxfords, highly polished"

  • Russell and Bromley make some nice shoes, top end of your budget though.

  • If they look and feel right, I'll spam the whole budget. I had to have a suit made for me, and it would be a shame to spoil it with a pair of cheap shoes.

  • Congrats on the new job BTW

  • Thanks. We got restructured and the choice was "voluntary" redundancy or a zero-hours contract.
No matter, the new job is awesome, but a little scary.

That must be some highfalutin job you have there, or a waiter.

  • Barker on Regent St are already in sale mode. One pair of Lutons, in high shine black, on a G last so they fit my hobbit feet. £220 reduced to £160, and the girl in the shop is lovely.

Job is about as highfalutin as they come. It's in the House of Lords, my boss is Black Rod (who is not actually a pirate).

  • I gave evidence to a Lords committee this week. Three off the old duffers commented on my lack of a tie. Smart shoes is probably a sensible choice...

  • I'm amazed you got through the door! Standards are obviously slipping...

Congratulations, would love the formality and ceremony of something like that.

  • (who is not actually a pirate).

    Well that's a let down.

  • Got some new moc toes - nothing ground breaking but they're what I needed
