  • Re: lining, I've a pair of cheapish Iron Ranger knockoffs from Hudson, and while the sole appears to be made of cheesecake base, the rest has held up pretty well, though they were cold. So I picked up a pair of cheap lambskin inner soles from ebay and it made a huge difference - no more cold seeping up through the ground, plus you can replace them when you like. Definitely recommend this rather than getting built-in liners.

  • Warm lining = thick socks, surely?!

Get something built on a generous last and wear with thick woolen socks, or with thin socks and insoles in clement weather.

  • Having multiple socks for different seasons is strictly for bedwetters and milksops. Are we not men?

  • Some John Lobbs commando soles on ebay in 12.5 uk. Second hand £250

  • link?

  • felt insoles are the best that I've found if you are not going for heated insoles. I have seen those cheap moc toe wolverines in urban outfitters and they are pretty bad imo

  • Not sure of the sizing of John Lobbs. Usually out of my price range!

There are normal socks for most occasions and fuck-me-it's-cold thick rugged socks for about one month per year, if that.

Discussing how to keep your little toes all snug in booties with soft linings is for quiver-lipped choirboys.

never handled them, but looking at photos online, they do look cheap

I've read somewhere that Wolverine 1000 mile boots aren't made by wolverine themselves, they've outsourced them to someone else. Can't remember who, reputable name though

Why you actual motherfucker. I'll find you, so help me, and I'll insert my manboot into your gaping rectum and do you know what? My toes will be even toastier. AVAST

That guy is on the forum and was selling those boots.

  • Hmmm appears to have been deleted - maybe was banned.

He has been trying to sell those boots since the summer, so you could easily go in lower

  • The Meermin boots look lovely - if you were considering the Lobbs I'd look at those.

  • Just having my Loake suede brouges resoled and healed with full Danite at £52 -

Left them, but does that sound reasonable. Craggs in Leeds.

  • Yes that sounds a pretty decent price!

Those Meermin look great but are too similar to my Loake Chelsea boots (which aren't warm
    enough when it's very cold).

  • What are they, Loake?

EDIT: URL says yes. I really like Loake, the leather isn't the most luxurious going but the two pairs I've had have been really solid and very comfortable. Good shape too. What sole are you thinking of? For my posh winter boots I wish I'd gone with something suitable for wet weather, like a Dainite maybe.

Yeah Loake Bledales. Look really nice on, though I sized down to an 8 and I'm considering trying a 7.5 (though I didn't have chunky winter socks on when I tried them) as they are pretty wide. They come with a rubber sole as above. Lovely boots. I think I'll pull the trigger on them.

I'm not convinced I could work them with a suit though. Any suggestion for a good boot to wear to the office through the winter?

  • ^^ The meermin look fantastic.

    Ah ok.

The double rubber sole - made me think they might be suitable.

  • ^^ do you tend to have a lot of external meetings?

I usually find it easier to leave a pair of "work shoes" at the office and then just deal with it when I have to go outside.

  • We're not talking running shoes and cheap whatever-tex rain jacket coupled with a suit here are we? Not a very strong look

Goes well with a rucksack to complete the look.

  • I leave 2 pairs of shoes at the office.

I see no reason why the bledales wouldn't work with a suit or a chelsea boot?
