  • What scoble said, I was trying to put it tactfully to find the solution more naturally but acknowledging it's inevitable with that riding style could be the 1st step to changing it. I wouldn't say don't shout, if you want to shout you can just while squeezing the brakes, shouting is antisocial but then shouting isn't all that uncommon and if you come to a stop for someone while shouting at them it's the lesser of 2 evils.

@CharlieFuckingA the stuff about brakeless/non brakeless will have legal implications as your bike will be deemed unfit/fit to ride and your ability to stop could be viewed as impaired by a lack of brakes for which there is no acceptable response. It also speaks volumes about your attitude towards the need for stopping and generally removing the safety a brake brings not just to you but also others you interact with while riding. I think the 2nd point about how you see your riding fitting in with other roadusers is what @dancing james is getting at, lots on here have done the brakeless thing had a near miss or crash and learned from it, I hope it's being highlighted so that lesson isn't missed and not just to have a go.

edit - many more posts while I typed that, was more than 30min for sure as I cooked a pizza between starting and finishing the post.

  • 488 pages and no one's yet answered the question, 'is it time to start calling out bad cyclists?'

  • I've only got 485 pages, but I have activated the handy ignore function.

  • Who knows? I'm sure most of us have been guilty on at least one occasion of doing something stupid on a bike.

  • God forbid I'm ever tried in the Relentless Courts of Scoble & James Public Justice. I think I would actually top myself and I'm not being hyperbolic. Send me to the gallows any day.

  • Get your muffin mix wrong and you'd be hung, drawn and quartered...

  • He'll be mixed, baked and iced.

  • What is up with people who not only cycle the wrong way in a cycle lane, but do it in the dark without lights?
I'm going along the cycle lane alongside a dual carriageway this evening and out of the darkness comes some dog's cock cycling towards me!
And he had the gaul to give me a sort of "look at me I'm a fucking superhero" look. Smug cunt.
If anyone reading this does that, can you kindly fuck off and stop risking my neck?

  • So much this. It's really tasteless, immature and embarrassing.

+1 the first thread was bad enough. It's really sick to be squabbling and shit stirring on here about a situation like this.

I'm not totally sure, but I think they not only cycle the wrong way in a cycle lane, but do it in the dark without lights. :)

And he had the gaul to give me a sort of "look at me I'm a fucking superhero" look.

  • Mentioned very politely to a cyclist this morning that perhaps going up the inside of a turning bus is inadvisable and was told in no uncertain terms that she did not need to be told how to cycle.
Is it worth calling out bad cyclists?
    Some of the time.

  • Did she have a nice bike?

  • Does that influence things?

  • To be fair that's not a bad cyclists, just stupid.

  • People nearly always get defensive alas...

...but better say it and then you've tried?

Perhaps she's at home, calmed down now and thought "Oh, why did he tell me that...and realized perhaps it wasn't so smart". But of course you always get the aggro and not the thanks ;)

  • There's a total cockwobble of a shitty aggressive twunt of a cyclist who has somehow managed to coincide with my commute these past two days.

She seems desperate to get herself into really dangerous situations and mouths off loudly to anyone who 'gets in her way'. Much eyebrow-raising and mutual tutting amongst other cyclists at the lights on Hackney Road as she breezed through a red between two buses crossing her path.

I fear for her safety, and told her as such, but she just said 'fuck off'.

    What can you do?

  • Default setting on the roads, Never, Ever admit your at fault for anything ever.

I got told to fuck off today by a motorist after he'd look right at me and pulled out of a side road anyway. I braked hard and came to a stop and made a bit of a 'face' (not directed at the driver, just in general, no eye contact)

Down comes the driver's window, and I'm told to fuck off.

  • Someone told me to wear a helmet today while undertaking me.

  • Some cunt shouted at me to DO A SKID last week.

  • You're right. I do it when I think it's worth mentioning and the reactions do vary, so I will carry on doing it. Even if someone's a bit rude, they might still think about it...

  • Some OTP single speed I think.
