  • Why is Larry Grayson in there?

    I lol'd.

    #showingourage

  • not read all the thread but where is the £4-5k* coming from the cost of the stand? or do they do a discount for not for profit organisations?

    that's what it's costing a shop that i know to have a 5x3m stand.

  • We've got less space and you can shave a couple of grand off that figure.

The money is coming from my pocket, but if it's measurably successful (translates into solid income from adverts that will appear in the slots that the site re-design has) then I'll be paid back for that over time and it would've served a good purpose. If not, fuck it... it would've been a laugh to punch above our weight for a weekend.

  • so a repeat of the t-shirt stall at the nocturne then

  • vb, chance to sell the rest of the t-shirts?

  • we need mr brakeless walking round in circles

  • I am happy to help in anyway, have access to a van etc.

Maybe a good idea to sell some T-Shirts, caps, mugs etc etc to pay for it ?

Also wheres the cunster, that need to be on display

    1. Velocio - General crap, manning the stall, set up and tear down
    2. ade - Help in designing the stall
    3. Fox - Help with general crap, marketing and PR advice (haz ideas), perhaps manning the stall
    4. Aroogah - Manning the stall.
    5. Cheesecake - Will already be there for various reasons. Manning stall/Beer distribution/Megaphone abuse.
    6. Wicksie - General crap, WOmanning the stall, can polo rep if need be too.
    7. DJ public relations
    8. Skully - Video edit.
    9. Crumb - general crap, putting up and taking down etc
    10. photoben - photography duties. I've already got my trade pass
    11. Cornelius - manning stall, loud voice..
    12. Manning the stall, lifting stuff. Protecting DJ from the public
  • so a repeat of the t-shirt stall at the nocturne then

    Kinda, but different.

The Nocturne worked, it flogged enough shirts to cover all costs, produce a small profit... and give me some of my front room back.

The Cycle Show won't give me cash for the outlay, but the difference between scraping through constantly and the forum having a profit is the sponsorship/adverts. I've already said we'll do an advert slot that rotates and shares the 4+ million page views... running a dual-economy to keep it dirt cheap for cottage industries within the community and market rate for people outside the community. The Cycle Show payback is in giving enough advertisers awareness of how big this place is that a few of those market rate slots are sold (priority to the cottages though)... that means profit comes back in to pay for this over the 3 subsequent months.

We can't sell shirts directly from the stall as they have a rule on that stuff. Can't sell beer either... not certain about giving it away, possibly I'll have to look into it.

I don't think it's much of a gamble for me to cover this, and I've covered the forum to this degree before but earlier this year that finally got settled up with the SJS stuff, so at the moment the forum is flush, I'm not out of pocket, all things are good and I think this will be a blast.

At the very least, for those of you attending you have a place to come hang out.

  • can you have a coffee machine on it? the catering is piss-poor at the show.

  • 'exchange' a t shirt with people who join up on the spot and pay their gold star?

  • 'exchange' a t shirt with people who join up on the spot and pay their gold star?

    That we can do.

You're allowed to sell subscriptions on the stall... but not merchandise.

"Free shirt" when you sign up and make a donation isn't a bad shout at all.

  • got to make sure the donation covers the cost of the shirt though..

  • Easily done... disable the lower rate donations for the duration of the event.

  • where's my free t-shirt? ;)

  • If anyone knows where some secure iPad mounts can be got from, let me know.

I can easily get 2 or 3 iPads (they're sitting around at work), just need to make sure they don't go walkies over the weekend. So if anyone knows where you can got solid display mounts that prevent theft, I'm interested.

  • Make sure you get plenty of people who will man the stall (not just say they will and go all flaky) because 4 days of that shit is enough to drive any person insane to the point of murder.

Personally I don't really see an advantage for this forum to be there, but then there's less relevant stuff every year so good luck.

If I am there with work I will come along during my breaks and do some of the taking of the piss.

  • What about a couple of polo exhibition matches over the weekend, with the chance for people to have a go on a couple of spare bikes?

Obviously, not in the stall itself, but don't these things usually have an exhibition area?

good call, if do-able that would be amazing.

Also, what about a special t-shirt which is exclusively available (for subscription/donation) at the show, to encourage forumengers to come down too (obviously sell any extras afterwards through the forum.

  • Bugger, I have loads of experience doing outreach events but don't think I could reliably volunteer to help out.

There are some things that I think should be included in the stall.

Laminated "Accident" cards to give away would be good but you would need thousands. (I will volunteer to help with the cost of producing these if it goes ahead)

A pictoral montage of the highlights of the forums activities including Polo Teams, major rides run, Fiddy's funeral (should his nearest and dearest agree), Tweed Run (teddy et al agreeing) etc... basically demonstrating the tremendous, close knit brilliance of this forum not just as a resource but as a remarkable functional community.

  • The most popular threads on the forum for spoke cards would be:
    1) What to do in the case of an accident?
    2) Locks that work
    3) OTP List

#3 could never fit on a spoke card... but #1 and #2 could be done as a back-to-back spoke card with accident info on one-side as a checklist, and the reverse being the top 3 locks we recommend and how to lock your bike.

  • I'll be in disguise like one of those 'test shoppers' to make sure you mofos are doing your shit properly.

"I'd like to be able to skid dear sir..."

  • Spokecard ought to just have pineapples and cats and shitpaste on it.

  • Whatever happened to the HGV Spokecards?

  • Just to say the polo aspect of this has been put to the association who deals with this sort of thing.

I could be an iPad mount and show people around the site?•

•I accept no responsibility of theft or damage.

  • Contacting the organisers and offering to put on a show of bike polo say a mini tournament over a day might be a good seller for them. Tell them they can have the players all day for free, and we get a stall for free.

EDIT: Wicksie beat me to it.
