  • Hey, sorry, I'm still in the nursery so can't start a new thread, but does anyone know if Niki Croft was ok after his accident today? It looked pretty brutal and I can't seem to find out what happened after the apparently had to be medivacked out of the show.

"@Cooperbear Niki Croft crashed hard on his head at #CycleShow BMX demo. Regained consciousness & seen moving. Didnt need Air Ambulance."

  • Hammer? Sounds like a job for Murts then..

  • That's not plain and simple carbon fibre. It's tough, so tough that they said that it would withstand me.

  • Ye.. damn watched Niki hit the floor! Hard! hope hes alright, seemed pretty serious

  • Loved the stand, actually looked more professional than most of the bigger companies! Well annoyed that Cinelli would not sell me a t shirt though :(

  • It's only carbon fibre - you could make your own holes with a nail and a hammer.

Amateur! A corkscrew is the perfect tool for this job.

  • Great stand. And a highlight to meet the good people there.

  • sorry i could not make it over this weekend.

but it sounds like the stand etc has been well received.

    so well done those involved.

Guru Photon with extreme lay-up ftw

Want. Although without the Sugino cranks and whateverthehell those hubs are. Hope your back is better, Steve!

  • What actually happens on a Trade day?

  • What actually happens on a Trade day?

people in the trade walk round and chat to suppliers free from the hindrance of the general public and kidz asking "got any stickers mister"

  • We had Krypto stickers on the LFGSS stall, and some stall that began with an R had some, but those were all I could find.

  • I want to say a massive thanks to everyone that helped.

I really hate singling people out because I'll inevitably miss people, however... thanks to everyone who helped on the stand with special mentions for eggpie, David and Richard who all helped on multiple days, for long hours, without complaint (actually that goes for everyone) and who were cheerfully chatting to even the most dull of passerby (there were a few strange people that came by).

Thanks too to all those whose bikes were on display. Murtle was a little bit over-protective of his, but his reward was this:

    Other photos here:

Thanks also to Bicycle Images who took my vaguely described "logo made of photos" with the later complexity of "with a background image" and surpassed expectations by delivering the photowall.

Thanks to JM for all of the Polo support.

Thanks to everyone who took it upon themselves to try and sell LCEF caps, Belk Bags, Levrier Bags, and to everyone for the work in promoting the Save Herne Hill campaign.

No thanks to the dumb thieves who swiped the Pitlock (sans-key... making the whole thing useless). Nor to whomever it was that managed to do away with the JOL straps (hah! he's got a new design in the works).

I honestly think the whole thing was a great success. The simple message of "We're bigger and more awesome than you can imagine" really got across.

Biggest winners (in order of who probably benefited the most):

    • Polo
    • Cycle Safety/Training
    • Bicycle Images
    • Levrier and Belk
    • Anyone who had caps on display (LCEF, Rollapaluza, LFGSS)

Which pretty well reflects the volunteers and their efforts to promote the stuff they care about, it turns out everyone loves polo!

    Best of the show:
http://www.torm.cc/ for their reasonably priced sportwool jerseys.
http://www.atomic22.co.uk/ for their new security product that looks to offer a more complete solution than Pitlock. Due early 2011, they're going to provide me with some early samples for some lucky person to test and provide feedback on.
http://www.genisysconsulting.co.uk/royce-uk/ (Royce) for their new track cranks (early prototypes, they're interested in speaking to track riders for feedback).
http://www.demonframeworks.com/ for yet another incredible show bike (this time inspired by the Greek God Hermes).

Again, thanks to everyone involved... very appreciated. I even feel that we can class it as a success, hopefully we'll see it translate into support for polo and other stuff in the future.

  • What actually happens on a Trade day?

Trade day was pretty interesting in that most traders themselves as well as press will visit almost every stall having pretty informed and deep conversations about what's on display and what's being sold, etc.

It's way quieter than the public days, but in one way way busier because more people are stopping by and talking for longer.

One of the most basic differences is that all price lists on trade days include trade prices. Some margins are shockingly small (I saw a couple of hybrids that would give a shop virtually no income) and some margins are horrifically large (a few pieces of bike porn had several thousands added on as markup). So fairly obviously, a lot of buyers are there on trade day, but I imagine that's more for the small shops as I'm guessing that larger shops and chains are sold to directly by the distributors.

  • Oh, and US imports.

It's weird seeing a US dollar RRP of $1,600 be converted to a UK pound dealer price of £1,200 for a UK pound RRP of £1,650. I know there's shipping and taxes, but straight conversions of those figures should have produced something closer to a UK pound RRP of £1,100.

  • Yay! Good stuff. I was waiting to see that picture - I think Joe's ear was a bit red afterwards =)

I found helping on trade day really interesting - it was good to hear how stuff works in the bike industry.

I even feel that we can class it as a success, hopefully we'll see it translate into support for polo and other stuff in the future.

  • I am really sick of seeing those campagnolo knockoff cranks. they just dont look right.

Although the royce track crank looks so right. and the bb spins so so smooth. check out their new and improved version on the square taper.

most unique SS bike at the show

Every manufacturer there seemed to think it was compulsory to have a steel/retro/fixie bike among their latest carbon and aluminium range. It got bit repetitive after a while.

  • cheers David. Thank you for giving us some space to show stuff and talk about cycle training.
You can see how hard we worked...

It was quite fun and people did indeed wish talk a lot about polo and training. Many were pulled in by the wall and/or the only non bling bikes in the show like Jonies polo bike and andrew's friendly bike.

It was also quite surprising to many people that:

    1. The forum exists and
    2. It has so many members/visitors

There were a lot of people who had visited the forum some had registered and lurked for a year or more but never posted. Some said they felt daunted by the joshing so hadn't posted.

People asked "What is the lfgss?" I had to spend a little time figuring a succinct answer to that and it was good hearing you and others explaining too.
    The Alt.fest idea is wicked

it was sad seeing the wall get dismantled

(more pics added to set here)

    pics or it never hapened

That's where the porn came from...

Could it be known that the crew who put together the photowall are the best. I've been trying to put into words my admiration for them, and can't really.

After months of planning and preparation, 2,500 photos travelled across London to be assembled in an order. There was no room for error in that order. And they managed to get a bunch of peeps who had no idea what to expect to get that job done in minimum time and with no cock-ups. Everything from the length of screws required to mount the board, the logical layout of the photo packs distribution, the "don't fucking move this camera tripod or..." , and the required 'charming' of the security guards was done with such professionalism it beggared belief.

I didn't get all your names. Sorry. But massive ups to you all. The wall was the star.

And thank you DK. You put in a lot of time, effort and money. We love this weird place, and I hope we did your input here and over the years justice.
