  • So what you are all saying is.....

    Craig Windfield/winmister999
    slim4130
    Highlandpro (aka Steelisreal)
    Jonnyrau (aka Leaf eater)
Steelisreal (aka Roland Clarke from Rutland)
    Leaf eater (aka 'Liam')
    Paypal

    my contribution.

  • well...you need to add all Banks to bad traders too- you have no protection if you do a Bank Transfer- other than go to the Crime Desk and Mr Plod.

I did a Bank Transfer with Slim4130, and ended up with a nice Mr Plod, who did get in touch with Slim and obtained a result for me.

I had been previously told by my Bank that I was covered in a transfer- sadly untrue. I nearly did a Bank transfer for a very nice Range Rover @ £X k's, but son put me off as he thought it was fishy. He was right, the Co and its web site has disappeared without trace. (I did report to a car reg checking web site and they took action as did Auto Trader too).

So to me, I think paying the Pay Pal fee is peanuts in comparison to losing perhaps lots of the lovely stuff. At least with PP you pay for what you get WYSIWYG- now there's a novelty for a business!

  • I hanker for the old days when all forum buying and selling deals where done at forum drinks, in cash, in person, with people who actually live in London :-(

  • PayPal is added to the list, but not quite for the right reasons of this discussion. Banks, again completely irrelevant.

Bank Transfer is what it is and offers no protection. Everyone knows what a Bank Transfer is. Now subsequently to that, what is meant by Protection and what are peoples' expectations of such a service?

Basically the question is this. There is no substitute for due diligence on part of all parties concerned when it comes to a transactional dealing. Buyers and Sellers each have their own responsibilities to find out and investigate the transaction to the fullest extent possible, to one's own satisfaction. Buyers should find out all that they can about what they are purchasing and from whom. It is no good for Buyers to go part way and then expect to rely on a service like PayPal Dispute Resolution to go the remainder of the way should things go wrong. That is pure laziness on Buyers' part.

The fact the transaction is taking place online makes no difference whatsoever. The end result is still the purchase or sale of a physical commodity. Online, simply makes the process of communication between parties simpler and direct.

The reason PayPal was raised in this discussion is a little more involved. There are fundamental issues on a corporate scale which leads to an averse viewpoint when it comes to dealing with them even as middle-men. The discussion is OT, for another time perhaps.

    @El_Diablo:

Hard to believe you were almost carried away to part with your cash without first seeing the car. Surely you'd want to view and inspect the car in person before purchasing it. Cars particularly, are always a dodgy business.

And since you are advocating for PayPal so much, you would only have been covered for non-delivery of the car should the seller have gone AWOL. Same as you would having paid by Credit Card say.

    Sorry, what?

  • Jonnyrau has not replied to my PM asking for a refund on a camera I purchased which turned up without the film spools.

  • So Im going to skin him.

Jonny has time to post the thread to find some wheels but not for Balki... oh Jonny...

  • I've got plenty of time to Xerox some WANTED photos, I know some on this thread has his address, time to put up some posters? :D

  • Should I email those guys and ask if I order the racer whether I'll get the bike pictured on the website?

    Ohh I am hurt now.

  • Only just had the pleasure of reading this - The Bonk has totally covered himself in glory in these pages.
Wanking off my cock with a hot iron?
Swimming against the current in a river full of turds?
    Fucking johnny repped.

  • Is it just me that thinks that Jobys access to wheels is a bit fishy?

  • just a bit?

  • Is it just me that thinks that Jobys access to wheels is a bit fishy?

    totally.

  • Is it just me that thinks that Jobys access to wheels is a bit fishy?

    Extremely....

whats the deal? where are all these wankers appearing from?

  • https://www.lfgss.com/thread49909.html - no asshole rule?

    Very good call.

  • Maybe a controversial nomination here, particularly coming from someone new around here and he's somewhat of an institution, but Hilarystone.

It’s been 2 weeks since I paid for some handlebars and I haven’t received the bars or a single acknowledgment from him to say he’s received the money or that he’s going to post the bars. I’ve sent a couple of polite PMs since to confirm that he’s received the money and that he’ll be posting the bars, but I’ve had no reply.

You only need to take a look through the pages of visitor messages on his profile to see that this isn’t an uncommon occurrence, with people having waited longer than I have without getting the stuff they’ve paid for. It’s particularly galling since my bike is off the road until I get these. Because of the lack of communication, it’s not like I can even tell him to refund me and I’ll get some bars elsewhere.

I don’t think for a second he’s trying to rip me off or steal my money, but it’s bad trading anyway, especially for someone that’s a proper trader. I could understand a purchase getting missed with all of the sales he must have to deal with, but not ignoring follow up PMs. I’d bet a month’s wages that if I sent a PM asking to buy something, he’d get back to me quickly enough. He’s managed to post half a dozen threads selling more stuff and reply to plenty of other people in the meantime. He’s keen enough to stress that dibs for an item must be followed with a PM and payment the same day…shame his desire for promptness doesn’t work both ways.

So I’m left with no bike indefinitely unless I buy elsewhere in the knowledge that at some point in the future I’m probably going to have some redundant bars turn up that I’ve wasted money on. Poor form.

Two user ID's. This has come up before.

I agree that it's a tad slack but Mr Stone, a bad trader, I think not.

  • I’ve bought twice from Hilary, and on each occasion I received the items two days after making payment. However, I take Sanddancer’s point about the negative visitor messages he’s received, but we don’t know the circumstances.

The first transaction with him was a little frustrating as I wasn’t getting a reply for a while, but once it came he was apologetic and believed he’d already replied – I put that down to him being busy, or forgetful like anybody else. Second transaction my PM was replied to in minutes, job done, stem received 2 days later. I gave him a +1 over on the good traders thread – he’s clearly not a bad trader.

  • My dealings with Hilary have also been very good indeed- I'm sure he didn't wait for the Bank Transfer to go through.

Maybe the LFGSS system needs on Out Of Office reply feature? I guess he does have other things to do, and wander off to buy the stuff he has as stock, and at present he's probably sorting out stuff for Ripley.
