So the new gym (Flaxman Sports Centre) is entirely different to The Gym Group one I was going to. The Gym was about 80% cardio machines, 10% mats and 10% weights. Flaxman is about 80% weights, 10% cardio and 10% other random spaces (excluding the 2 squash courts and five aside space upstairs).
On first glance, it's quite intimidating. Low ceilings, old tatty looking weights and loads of properly hench blokes from the estate. Even though it was busy around 7pm this evening, it was actually much nicer working out there than in the shiny The Gym place. A couple of guys gave some advice on form and others actually welcomed sharing equipment rather than just ignoring me while sitting on a bench looking at their phone between sets.
They have some properly large dumbells there too and hundreds of plates (most of the machines are the lever and plate style rather than the pulley and stack type).
I only stayed for about 40min this evening as I haven't done any weights in months but with the size of the other guys in there I may have put more weight in the lifts than I ought to have done. I will probably find out tomorrow.
Oh, and I have yet to keel over from the old protein power, which was still bone dry.

There are several studies that contradict that high level of protein. If you do the maths, muscles just aren't made of that much protein. Even if your primary goal is hypertrophy, you don't need that much. The excess just gets converted to glucose. The downside of this; it creates a more acidic environment and the body works harder to digest the excess. Although this isn't a big problem, it does have an effect on ones energy levels.
Do you even lift, bro?

^ saw that coming, but fair.
The new gym sounds lovely! Enjoy!

RVH- if you're going to claim 'several studies' I want links to them.
All opinions are fine, and most of this thread (including much of what I've said) is anecdotal at best, and I'm OK with that, as long as no claims were made as to a scientific level of evidence... -

I lift homeopathic weights- much more effective.

• #7734
I've done several studies myself, OF YOUR MUM!

I can't be bothered with you RVH. Read the thread. I've gone through clinical trials, which required intimate detail of daily activity and feeding, including a specific- and unknown (as req'd of a double blind (maybe you should google the technical terms)) supplement. Anecdotally, the regimen of exercise worked for weight loss and I've managed to control my weight pretty effectively since incorporating that in. The paper isn't published yet so I have no real information from a more global perspective.
Cite your references or fuck off.

Once again, RVH, you are running into the "I'm Jesus Christ!" issue.
If you are the one making outlandish claims then the onus falls on you to back them up, or we'll poke fun at you for being a wally.

Oh FFS please don't make another thread go this way RHV.
Go and hone your perfect holistic ass somewhere else and less carry on "doing it wrong" in our blissful ignorance.

Dammit has put it far more nicely than I did.
At no point did I suggest that a different amount of protein was required. I asked for your evidence. If you're unable or unwilling to provide it, I simply take it that your claims are unsubstantiated. -

Well based on the fact that Eyebrows, Stevo and myself all think you come across as if you have suffered a head injury recently I am confident in my "outlandish" statement.
I think you should make your case using the medium of Greco Roman wrestling.

using the medium of Greco Roman wrestling.
I tried that once with Chainbreaker, it ended exactly as you would expect.

But we can cure that with carrots, so the baldness thing is more important.

On baldness. I know that Facebook has ads that are based on your browsing history (Arse Ticklers Monthly, How To Get Rid Of "That" Smell, etc - the usual) but recently mine has had hair treatment clinics and baldness cures ads. I know that I have never Googled hair re-growth or baldness stuff. Is Facebook analysing my photos and suggesting things to remedy my flaws? If so, surely there are more pressing concerns.

Contradict that level of protein for what? Where are these studies?
What maths are you talking about? My primary goal is exercise performance - body builders generally take on board more than what I specified - I think AIS was suggesting up to 2g/kg.
Acidic environment where? Gut? Blood? What?
Body works harder to digest excess protein - really? This effects energy levels? Evidence? -
