  • Right, so those excess carbs that are a form of energy..

    what happens to them?

They're stored as fat! The point was that it's not just excess carbs that are stored as fat, it's excess protein and fat too. Carbs aren't any more or less likely to be stored as fat than anything else. It's a lot easier to think simply in terms of excess Kcal unless you're really, really serious!

  • Just to explain

I love food too much to eat less

Hence exercise more and I have graduated to being allowed two puddings when dining out.

You look pretty skinny to me, but then you would probably think I was fat.

  • How much carb in crab?

    Zero.

  • @ DFP not quite sure how to quote and shit, and just saw a big spider running across the floor. Must Kill. Hang on....

  • click quote init

  • has this become fattys anonymous?

  • should one stop boozing all together or just beer?

    (please say just beer)

  • Henners; youback in London now?

There's some good and some shit advice on this thread and I'm not going to get too involved, but think I can advise a bit (16 stone to 11.5 stone in 3 years)

  • i worked with somebody who was on the atkins diet. he smelled like a burger van.

  • should one stop boozing all together or just beer?

    (please say just beer)

Just beer, its pretty calorific. But that can be a good thing. I bet your not fat, and neither are most of the people asking for fat loss advice in general.

Its a cliche, but learn to accept your own body. Freakish traits like being ultra lean and small is more of a bad thing than good.

    Small = weak
    Small = malnourished/unhealthy
Six Pack/Abzors = display of weakness & malnutrition
Low Bodyweight = weak & easy to throw around

  • at uni i put on weight even though i was going to the gym 4 times a week for 2 hours. left uni, got a job and gave up wheat. being on the go all day, plus having what you can eat limited (its not the lack of wheat so much as the lack of options on the high street for lunch! i ended up making salads with rice/quinoa to fill me up and keep me going) meant i lost a stone pretty quickly. summer is a good time to get going and get in the habit (because that is partly what healthy eating is) because when it's hot you are less hungry.

and give up alcohol. a friend of mine gave it up 4 months ago and he has lost 3 stone. simply through not drinking.

also, i was doing military fitness 3 times a week 2 years ago, and i was ridiculously slim, fit and strong. i miss it. it get's addictive... http://www.britmilfit.com/

    So, I'm right.

I know excess energy (fat, protein, carb) is stored as fat but your statement singling out carbs was wrong. Now everyone on the interwebz iz all like crystal, innit.

I wouldn't say Im fat but for my height/width im pretty heavy:

Just under 6 foot tall, 15 stone, 35" waist (cos I wear my jeans low).... just need to trim...

Theres some good advice here, definitely going to try it out.

  • "a friend of mine gave it up 4 months ago and he has lost 3 stone. simply through not drinking."

I find this very hard to believe. For starters they probably gave up drinking for health benefits, ie. they were concerned for their health. This would naturally have them looking at improving other aspects of their diet/lifestyle.

Also, it's not just alcohol calories that are adding weight. It's the fact that booze increases your appetite AND the fact you are less likely to consider healthy food options when pissed.. that kebab looks great!

Cutting out booze might be a nice start but it's not the be all and end all.

  • Basically Jemjah, you have displayed what has been said here already. Eat less = weigh less.

People go to gyms to gain weight. Even those misguided souls who want to "tone" really want to build some firm muscles on their bellies or bottoms. This means weight gain in the form of muscle.

Going to the gym purely to lose weight, is not that effective, as you have found out.

British Military fitness is a fucking rip off. The military has some of the most backwards & innefficient training methods you are likely to find. Why does that attract people? Because you want to be yelled at/feel abused/feel pain? I know a good place in soho for that.

They dont even do that properly, plus they use public parks as venues so they dont even have overheads.

If somebody wants high quality "better than british military fitness" training & coaching from me. Ill do it 1 on 1 for the same price/free and guarantee superior results. This will sell very poorly as I am not an outstanding example of fitness, being born with shoddy genetics and having accumalted several injuries (not through training).

  • Homeopathy is good for weight loss, tynan also knows a guy with crystals which *will* help.

  • Is anyone yet disputing that if you take in fewer calories than you use you will lose weight and vice versa?

  • I think it's more the case that if you eat less, you will weigh less. However, your way of putting it may have some merits, too. I can't remember it being put this way in this thread before.

  • Homeopathy is good for weight loss, tynan also knows a guy with crystals which *will* help.

    So do I..

  • Then again, it could just be that eating less will mean that you will not be so fat. It's a bit of a toss of the coin, really.

  • Come to think of it, it's also a bit like the turn of a friendly card.

  • Is anyone yet disputing that if you take in fewer calories than you use you will lose weight and vice versa?

I can if you really want? I need to get up early tomorrow though so I think I might skip that and go to sleep now.

    Well, I am 5' 8"

Have gone from a 30" waist to 36" over the past few months, and still consider myself 10-15kg shy of being athletic. I weigh 12 stones or 165lb. Most athetes perform optimally at a weight of around 200lb. (athletes who rely on power, not marathoners)

  • Or now that I've mentioned that, one of the most efficient ways of losing weight is definitely this:

  • I can if you really want? I need to get up early tomorrow though so I think I might skip that and go to sleep now.

    Human afterall.
