Wow, the 100% chocolate diet, how has this escaped worldwide acclaim? It sounds like the diet to end all diets.
100% cocoa-solids chocolate. Most people can eat no more than a small amount of that, which removes the risk of you just nomming the whole bar. But your body gets the signal that you've eaten something rich. Works for me, anyway.
There is also something to be said for learning not to satisfy hunger pangs immediately, if you can do that without being driven to distraction. I get very cranky when I'm hungry in a situation where I have no option to stay hungry (i.e. in a boring meeting), but can ignore hunger when I know I could go eat something.

100% cocoa solids chocolate. That is, no sugar, no milk, just cocoa. Most people, even dark chocolate fans, find it unpleasant. Have you ever tried it?
Carrots.
Dipped in 100% chocolate. That's a great idea. Raw, ofc.

Cottage cheese is a must, it's cheap and can be mixed with almost anything, good amount of slow release protein in it too,
I have a small bowl with some chopped nuts in it as a snack if I really fancy something

I've just found individual sachets of whole earth peanut butter in my local supermarket.
Well that removes the need for peanut butter sandwiches on long rides and runs :)

The worst part about trying to ride yourself thinner (and fitter) is finding out that you have to get fitter just to keep riding. Three 40 mile commutes in a row and I'm bloody knackered and no lighter....

If you've got a 40 mile commute you really don't need to try to lose weight, in my experience. Just give it time.
Last week I rode 9 miles each way to work, ran 5km and did a spin class every day, then ran 20km on Saturday and rode 40 miles on Sunday; counted all my calories every day and kept to 1200 plus some (but by no means all) exercise calories, and I have managed to put on weight.
This had better be muscle.
Since posting this a week ago I've lost 2.5kg. Hurrah! Probably because I'm massively dehydrated, and still a way to go, but nice to feel like progress is being made.

Started again on Briffa last week. Rather good book - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Escape-Diet-Trap-John-Briffa-ebook/dp/B005ODY0RW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390549627&sr=8-1&keywords=briffa+escape+the+diet
Was at 94kg, now down tooo.... 91kg, so it's going well. Spin and abs last night fucked me up good and proper though.

40mile commute sounds like a very tough way of trying loose weight, it would drive my hunger levels right up leaving me on a knife edge all day, of too tired to concentrate, eat the right amount and be ok, or eat too much and defeat the point of the ride!
Good luck!

I don't weigh myself particularly often.
Now up to 85.
I'll check in again in 6 months time.

Hovering around the 74s again, so just about undone the damage of Christmas...
Just cut out the booze everything else has remained the same although some running has been replaced by cycling to try to avoid injury.

You are now heavier than me. By a reasonable amount. I have waited long for this day.
Got a bit of a scales scare over xmas after not weighing myself for a looong time. Knew something was up because my belt kept popping undone. Taking steps to get back in things :/
(finding myfatness pal to be rather useful, that and having the digital scales on the countertop for all meals. hrumph.)

5:2 plus cycling seems to be pretty potent. Like interval dieting.
