  • Smoked haddock in milk. My mum used to make us that as kids, with bread to soak up the milk.

    I hate fish now.

  • I was eating hummus with carrot dippers when you typed that, Hats...

Not going to put me off the fish, ofc.

  • Muesli has got protein in it. Nuts and seeds. Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Depends what you define as muesli. Most of it is sugar filled junk. Far more sugar and refined carbs than protein. Fair enough if you buy proper quality stuff or make your own, but if it's shop bought crap filled with dried fruit (not that dried fruit is a bad thing but when it's more sugar on your already sugar filled cereal... yadayada) you might as well eat cardboard. Probably more fibre in that.

  • In fact, there's nearly twice as much protein in a bowl of porridge than in the same size serving of most muesli brands. Yes, nuts have protein but even more fat. Nuts are one of the most calorie dense foods around, so the manufacturers don't put enough in for it to make a serious difference.

Nuts in general (and peanuts in particular) are great for powerlifters, bodybuilders and such. Needs a little caution if you're trying to lose weight, otoh. Even when I'm trying to put on weight (i.e. muscle), I value nuts more for the minerals and energy than the protein content.

  • My workmate's mini yum yum contains 5g of sugar. The granola on his desk contains 14g of sugar per serving.

  • Polish lager.

    Winner.

  • Flying home from the USA in ~3 hours.

I have lost weight as the food (we have been served) has been fucking terrible.

I can only dream of the joys of a JD Wetherspoon dinner.

  • Separating the wheat from the chaff idiots.

  • I'm going to celebrate with pastry!

  • I have pretensions of sophistication - I'll celebrate with patisserie.

  • Can anybody suggest something that will make me feel full but won't make me pile on pounds. Struggling badly with hunger pangs recently.

  • Miso soup. Get down Wasabi, a packet is 99p. Probably fairly high in salt but does the job.

Apples always make me hungrier for some reason.

  • 100% cocoa-solids chocolate. Most people can eat no more than a small amount of that, which removes the risk of you just nomming the whole bar. But your body gets the signal that you've eaten something rich. Works for me, anyway.

There is also something to be said for learning not to satisfy hunger pangs immediately, if you can do that without being driven to distraction. I get very cranky when I'm hungry in a situation where I have no option to stay hungry (i.e. in a boring meeting), but can ignore hunger when I know I could go eat something.

  • Witbier. Get in.

    Water.

  • Inadequate hydration can sharpen hunger pangs (or be mistaken for hunger) but I don't think it will stop genuine hunger.

  • If it's genuine hunger then eat something. Fibre and protein are both good for sating hunger and the items that contain them are typically lower in calories than a Snickers or whatever.

  • Crack is also low-calorie and reduces appetite.

  • Soup and zero noodles

  • Which are mostly water.

  • My scales have run out of batteries.

  • It's mostly psychological but I'm also convinced I've got a massive stomach sack. Try to keep meals protein heavy because I know that keeps you feeling full for longer.

I never feel hungry when I'm riding. Maybe I need to cycle more.
