It's hard to build strength on a calorie deficit; it certainly requires very fine judgement. Get it wrong and you a) just don't have enough energy to move that iron around for enough reps to stimulate the muscle growth and b) don''t have the resources to build the muscle anyway.
Bulk and cut, bulk and cut is a common pattern.

What kind of daily calorie deficit are people running to a) lose weight but b) not adversely effect their training?
300-500 cal per day is typically suggested.

He said 'training' but didn't mention what training.
And what's cutting got to do with building strength?

Higher percentage of calories from protein when calorie restricted is supposed to be a good whey (see what I did there?) to avoid muscle wastage.

Cutting down on low intensity/high volume (cycling) at the moment and working on lower volume/higher intensity- interval sessions this week to bring up the speed a bit.
I've no motivation to get big muscles, I just want to lose a bit of flubber without impacting my endurance and speed on the bike.

This is a good book for people doing proper sports (and triathlon)

Bought it, will read it whilst ironing my hands after having an icecream

I've started double-stacking my bookcases with unread books. Buying is so much easier than reading. :(

Well, given that I am hugely tempted to tell my idiot boss to stick my job up his arse tomorrow, I might have a bit of free time for reading coming up.

I spent the whole of today telling my boss to do one and how everyone we deal with is a prick. That's the problem with being an angry, sweary type and lasting longer than everyone else - they just expect it so there's no shock value. Cunts, I'll turn up tomorrow wearing a suit and praising Jesus, that'll fuck 'em.

I thought that this mornings "CC'd to the EVP" email was a bit pathetic when I got it, the more I think about it the more cross it makes me - fucker never apologised for trying to hang me out to dry infront of the chief exec due to his own stupid error.

Everything is better with chocolate sprinkles.
Are you saying that you can't run a deficit that doesn't also negatively impact training?
