You're welcome to give it a try. The last pass I made of Winnats saw me stopping once when my heart was making hardcore D&B seem slow and chilled out.

You can wear as little or as much tweed as you like, I would hope that everyone who comes along enters into L' esprit de corps as it were. No one will be sent home with a note to their mum.
Just about bugger all of Winnats is 35%, I think only on one corner if you hug the inside and only for a few metres. The rest is a tough 22% slog in the middle of some 10-15. Importantly, Winnats is quite short, certainly much shorter than it's supposed reputation. And I like it, so I'm leading the ride up there.
The bit of the A6 that we're doing, from Disley to Hazel Grove is admittedly fast and busy, but it is also wide, down hill and short and allows me to route the ride through the nice trundle down to Whalley Bridge, which will be well earned after traversing Winnats and supping on a pint, for those that want one.
Fair enough. I'll prob ride over Snake Pass to Hope and meet you at the Woodbine Cafe. Now for a wander round charity shops for tweed gear.....

The gf managed to do it non stop, although required some recovery time at the top. she was on a bottom gear of 32x28. That's a stunning 30 GI, which I think might even be considered a little low for polo.

You can always not turn off to Winnats and stay on the original "earthquake" road. Its still passable by bike (at least it was a few years ago), car-free and an easier gradient.

I'm getting very excited for this ride!

Juct checked the long range forecast. Claims it is likely to be dryish up to next weekend. Getting excited and hoping for a good day out as I don't have a plan B.

Was still deciding, but Shambala has left me with a chest infection, so I'll not be there.
Maybe next time... Enjoy.

For those that are coming along, my number is in the numbers thread, which is probably worth making a note of.

If the weather is anything like today I'm pondering if I should move the first coffee stop to the Stannage Edge coffee van. I have a suspicion that the Woodbine may be a little busy.

Good man! I'm on the geared Bob Jackson to allow me to get up hills whilst several pints of fine ale slosh around in my swollen belly.

Actually not moving the coffee stop in the hope that Manc Ronnie will be joining us.
Having a spot of a chuckle over the name though as I watched a bit of Intermission at the weekend where a moustache is referred to as a Ronnie. Not sure why they're called that in Ireland but all Ronnies will be welcome on the day, hairy or Mancunian. Bonus points if he comes as the Two Ronnies.

so is it just the 3 of us confirmed?

So far but Manc Ronnie seemed interested in meeting us in Hope.
Doesn't matter, we'll still make it a good one anyway.

You're welcome to give it a try. The last pass I made of Winnats saw me stopping once when my heart was making hardcore D&B seem slow and chilled out. I was in my bottom gear of 32x25. After a minute of panting like and excited labrador, I was able to get going again and get to the top.
I'll repeat my earlier reservations, I'm not worried about people riding fixed on this ride to get up the hills, it's going down the otherside that is likely to cause the most damage.
