Was that the girl knocked down by an idiot riding on the pavement? Either I've got some blinkers on or ped death by cyclist isn't that common
-
• #928
I think it was widely reported that it was on the pavement, when it was in fact in the road.

Appears unclear where he was:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/7496370.stmWidely reported because muppet MP (<----- tautology) tried to bring in death by dangerous cycling into a bill and she said "Imagine if a motorist had mounted the pavement and killed a schoolgirl" thus implying that's what happened to Rhiannon.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-12816829Just my opinion but it seems extremely unlikely that a freshly wrapped MAMIL would bizarrely mount the pavement to attack a bunch of school kids, but who knows...

Just had my first death threat in about 6 years. On the mean streets of Earlsfield by a Network Cars cab from Glasgow of all places. Car 2861. Lucky there were a nice couple of WPCs up the road.

L1OOT BMW R 1200 GS ADVENTURE TU GREY
I see this bike most days and aside from his usual undertaking cars on the inside, seeing how close he can get to a cyclist, today he overtook me just moments prior to the barrier at Chelsea Harbour and because he couldnt judge the width of his bike/panniers, he braked sharply to a standstill..... not sure how I didnt go into the back of him.... but aside from the obvious damage to Fr wheel/fork... almost wish I had.

getting done for a public order offence..... not common assault?!
exactly, public order offence is nothing, especially for thugs of his kind. Public order convictions are handed out for people being shouty and aggressive on a friday night. This is 'common assault' without doubt.

Did I imaging that there is a website where you can look up addresses of cars? I would like to explain to a driver that just because you don't like that a cyclist is in front of you, does not mean you drive at them in anger.
I am thinking of making up some stickers with a made up picture of a gory accident with the question 'is this what you want?' to put on their cars. -

No report to police, but I'm gonna get my rant on - picture, if you will, the scene. Yesterday eve at around 7pm, approaching a small roundabout on a very quiet residential street, I'm gonna turn right. I can hear a car approaching from behind, I take a look, it's not moving particularly fast, but faster than me. I have the option to maintain my primary position, slowing the car slightly, or move kerbside and slow to allow them to pass me before the r'bout. As it's a quiet road I stay out and am sadly not particularly astonished to find myself being overtaken at the very last second by a dippy old bat, who then has to slam on the brakes to circumnavigate the small tight r'bout. Being a dimwitted ho-bag, she anxiously watched me in her wingmirror whilst driving round the r'bout and subsequently messed up her exit, clipping the kerb as she did so. She probably got home and moaned to her cats about the hoodlum / looter on the bicycle. A menace to society.

RJ07 UUZ. Minicab unsurprisingly, silver people-carrier.
Going along Seven Sisters road past the park towards Manor House last night there were some building works so cones filtering all the traffic into the bus lane.
I was happily in primary position in the bus lane, didn't want anyone trying to squeeze past me as it narrowed, when a minicab caught up to me from behind just as the cones were filtering the traffic over. He started drifting over into the space where I was, forcing me closer to the kerb. Ended up with me banging on the passenger window in disbelief.
Not sure what happened then, whether he clipped me or, because I was squeezed into the kerb I clipped the kerb or hit one of the massive potholes on that stretch but next thing I was on the floor in front of the cab in the middle of the road.
Got up and shouted something along the lines of What the fucking hell do you think you're doing. His response "How much road do you think you need"
After checking all was OK with me and bike, other than bleeding elbow and leg, I moved my bike onto the pavement as traffic was stacking up. Turned round and the fucker had disappeared into the distance, didn't even bother asking if I was OK.
Reported it on the roadsafe website but they've come back and said as there was a collision I need to go into a station and report it. Now need to track down my nearest station and find some free time.

Do it - if you got a reference # from roadsafe, take that with you too so that they can cross-reference (not sure if that's useful, but it seems like a Good Idea(tm))
-
• #938
please do take this up with the police.
you have a reg number which is a good start.
roadsafe ref seems a good idea.
take the details directly to a solicitor, i recommend oliver jeffcot based on my experience with him. find him in the lawyers thread.sorry, preachy and prescriptive post but i was hit by a minicab nearly a year ago. those cunts rile me now.

I got doored tonight on Victoria Street near Vauxhall Bridge Road. I was coming up the left hand side approaching the lights, car door 5 meters ahead of me on my right suddenly opened so idiot woman can jump out for the lights.
Steamroller bashed in to the inside of the door. I just about stayed off the road.
No need to mention which bits of me hurt, was more rattled nerves. Got their number and reg and an apology (though I had to bend over to hear it). Wheel's a bit wobbly. Might go and see citygent tomorrow.
Then on Hyde Park Corner a classically awful bit of driving by a blonde in a blingy people carrier on a MOBILE PHONE. As you can imagine, Prancer let her know what a daft prat she was.

Just sent to Brakes catering suppliers and roadsafed. Fanny of the highest order.
Dear Sirs,
This morning one of your delivery lorries, registration SG52 RWK, nearly killed me.
While cycling North between the two Elephant and Castle roundabouts at 9.05 this morning, I was riding in primary position in lane 2, a Brakes catering suppliers lorry begins to pass me in lane 3. When about half way past, the lorry suddenly pulls left, without signalling, forcing me to take evasive action to avoid a bloody end.
I have of course reported this to the Metropolitan Police, you can expect to be contacted by their "Road Safe London" team in the near future.
This standard of driving is utterly unacceptable. I look forward to hearing of the disciplinary action you will be taking against your driver.
Yours etc.,

This morning, westbound on Lambeth bidge, riding primary, bus is behind, he honks, then overtakes, once cab is past me, he brakes and moves into the kerb. I brake hard & all ok. Driver stopped at next bus stop, he winds down window & started getting a bit aggressive/argumentative - I gave him the opportunity of accepting he was in the wrong & apologise or he would be reported, he apologised.... not sure whether I should still have reported, but once he calmed down, he seemed to understood how dangerous his driving was.

ran into the side of car!
Or rather, in contraflow with 2ft+ drop off either side of a 7ft ribbon of tarmac, I was on my own coming through the lights, old geezer in an old geezer car (honda something) looks in my direction, then looks at gearstick, then looks in teh direction he wants to go, quickly pulls into my path (less than 5m distance, I'm doing 25-30mph) then realises he will overshoot the tarmac into the works, so stops.
The second I saw him look my direction I start braking almost as hard as I can. then he moves, I AM braking as hard as I can. but still.
Boof.
right into the rear door/3/4 panel then tumble off slowly back into the road, he nearly reverses over me, then carries on up the street.
People from behind the junction he was at jump out to ask if I'm OK, I am, just shaken. Say thanks to them, jump back on bike, and hunt him down. Seconds later, find him, nice dent in the side of his car.
Just about smash through his side window for him to even notice me (@ 30mph now) as he must have been about 85yrs.
Eventually he turns his neck and looks up at me. and stops, on the pavement, nearly knocking a ped.
I calmed down enough to ask WTF did he think he was doing. THe response?- "Oh are you that cyclist I saw earlier today?"*
erm yes mate, the one you pulled out infront of, who then crashed into you, and yes, the very same one you nearly ran over and then fled the scene of an accident.
You can't make this shit up!
Exchanged details, no damage to Bob, and neither to me, I must have just about stopped. Only damage was to his rear door & 3/4 panel both had decent dents and a scrape from QR/fork/pedal.
He probably never actually saw me, despite it being a bright enough sunny day, and I was wearing a hi vis yellow waterproof (windy day).
This was in Keswick, a tourist town, most of summer its out of bounds for locals, can't get parked, can't get to the shops and during July/August its full of people who really like Jesus and would like you to really like Jesus too :s - "Oh are you that cyclist I saw earlier today?"*

Had a good result tonight. I was cycling home through Chiswich, and was getting towards a zebra crossing and spotted a lady with a push-chair waiting. I stopped to let her cross, and had been stationary for a few seconds, but from behind me a car just carried on, narrowly missing me and forcing the lady to pull back onto the pavement.
Anyway, after this the lady crossed and just seemed a bit annoyed, as I was too. The traffic was quite bad, so I easily caught up with the offending car. I shouted from the passenger side 'do you know what you did there?' The male passenger and female driver were arguing and did not hear me and so I shouted again but louder. The man put his window down and said 'Sorry, but my wife is not allowed to drive over here.' There were 2 PCSOs walking along, so I walked over to them and said what had happened and that I thought that there might be someone driving without the correct licence. The waved the car into the bus lane and asked the driver to get out.
Both the occupants got out, and I explained really calmly what had happened - the lady said that her husband was joking about her not being allowed to drive. I told the PCSOs that I had witnessed dangerous driving, that she had narrowly missed both me and a lady with a push chair. The PCSOs called to proper police officers who were on the scene within 2 mins. They took the driver and her husband a few meters along the pavement and I stayed with the PCSOs. I overheard the police officers asking the couple to provide some details to them - at this point the lady became really irate, and was shouting at the police and also at me, saying that she hadn't hurt anyone. I did not reply, but asked the PCSOs if they could check to see if the lady had a valid driving licence. He said that this is what was happening at the moment, and that this is why the lady was irate. They asked me to leave the scene, as it was being percieved as being antagonistic. I would report the near miss if I wanted to, but the police officers were dealing with the driver. I got back on my bike and started to cycle away, I heard the lady shouting 'I hope you are happy with yourself' and 'I didn't hurt anyone, you should not have done this'.
I had the feeling that she really should not have been driving due to her reaction, and if this is the case am very happy that she has been caught and is being dealt with. Even if she did have a licence (and also insurance / tax / mot) I feel glad that she was inconvenienced for at least 10 mins, if not more, due to her impatience. If the lady with the push chair had crossed just a few seconds earlier then we may have had 1 or more serious injuries, or even worse, take place.
Gosh, that was a long rant.....

'I didn't hurt anyone, you should not have done this'.
Considering the outrage that RLJing cyclists are greeted with (even when there no peds around), this seems a bit rich. Not excusing any RLJing btw.

The reasons why I reported her were because 1. she obviously didn't see someone crossing and a bike stationary at a zebra crossing. 2. afterwards she swerved into the bus / bike lane but then swerved back into the car lane (sorry, didn't mention this before). 3. Her husband said that she wasn't allowed to drive over here - if he said that she wasn't a very good driver then I wouldn't have bothered but this was quite specific about not being allowed.
I would really hate for someone (ped, cyclist or another vehicle) to be hit by this lady who shoud not be on the road (either legally or due to lack of driving skills).
I don't RLJ*. I prefer the interval training !!!
- cannot afford whatever the fine is at the moment !!!
- cannot afford whatever the fine is at the moment !!!
There was that girl, a little while ago, but the inference there was that she deliberately walked out in front of the cyclist.
