• Given that the driver physically assaults the cyclist, while the cyclist may not be above criticism, I find it hard to consider their actions as morally equivalent.

And quite frankly, I also find it hard to see that the response from the cyclist was overly aggressive. The recipient of his justified anger was after all sitting safe and sound in 2 tons of locked metal box, so could hardly feel physically threatened by a shouty cyclist. The Audi driver acted like a fucking prick, and can't have too many grounds for complaint if someone draws his attention to this fact.

  • The driver was badly behaved in the first instance. The cyclist shouldn't have used provocative language. The driver shouldn't have punched him. The end.

    This x1000.

Anyone who thinks that the cyclist deserves a punch in the face is morally bankrupt and deserves a good punch in the face.

  • ^^But what now? :p

  • Also, I admire the self control of the cyclist walking away after getting punched.

I imagine he just bottled it to be honest

  • ^Yep. That was pure fear, not control.
    ^^Now?

    INTERNET!

    That's what

  • only one party got out of their vehicle and physically assaulted the other.

This covers it entirely, everything else is just hot air.

  • Watching it again. It's not the driver who gets out, it's rear driver's side passenger.

  • holy shit you're right!

  • I'm sure I read somewhere anyone who gets out of the car is the aggressor, something about needlessly antagonistic?

  • Cyclist was riding 3 abreast while bitching at a motorist ignoring the highway code...

Both are wrong imo, would have let them fight to the death in a fair controlled and televised environment.

  • 3 abreast is hardly a deal killer.

  • 3 abreast is hardly a deal killer.

Neither is safely edging into an advanced stop box?

  • yeah... he called him a nasty word. he deserves to be knocked unconscious by a knuckledragging fuckwit with cock like a cashew.

  • Neither is safely edging into an advanced stop box?

'safely edged into an advanced stop box'? Is this a euphemism for 'deliberately driving a car through a red light, pulling halfway into the opposing carriageway, and then doing a burnout from the lights'? If it isn't then do send us a postcard from whatever planet you're currently inhabiting. It must be wonderfully exotic.

  • Astounding that the fat cock-socket in the slacks felt that he had any right whatsoever to assault someone.

He's a total cunt, nothing the cyclist did "deserved" what happened.

I really do hope that someone spots that car and torches it.

Here it all is on camera, the driver edges forward about 3 feet then stops and then remains stopped until he is bibbed from behind and zooms off, mostly prompted by a tap on the window to be told the highway code by someone ignoring most of it. The cyclist then rides in the middle of the middle lane between junctions before shouting at the guy.

Nobody should be assulted but owning a bike doesn't instantly absolve you from all blame. The phrase "share the roads" is applicable to all road users.

  • We can be as many abreast as we like in an advanced stop box. There is no guidance in the highway code on that. The WHOLE space is marked with a cycle symbol. It is ALL there for cyclists. The driver was clearly getting irked by cyclists getting ahead of him.
Having a word at the lights might have been a bit over the top, but is legal. Getting out and lumping someone is a serious offence though.

  • no, but being twatted by a tepid lump of cocksnot in an audi for daring to call you out for your inability to acknowledge a bit of fucking paint on the road does give you the moral high ground.

    and fuck you.

Actually the rule applys on all roads. The advanced stop box is as relevant as a yellow line.

    You should

[]keep both hands on the handlebars except when signalling or changing gear
    [
]keep both feet on the pedals
[*]never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends
[]not ride close behind another vehicle
    [
]not carry anything which will affect your balance or may get tangled up with your wheels or chain
[*]be considerate of other road users, particularly blind and partially sighted pedestrians. Let them know you are there when necessary, for example, by ringing your bell if you have one. It is recommended that a bell be fitted.

  • Those are guidelines, are they not?

And anyway, that's a distraction- the cyclist could have done pretty much anything and still not deserved to be smacked by Jabba-the-hooray.

  • ^^ next time i clock you picking your nose whilst riding i'm pulling over and punching you in the throat. SHARE THE ROAD.

  • They're not riding! They're stopped at the lights, I filter to the front every day, cars can't beat bike speeds in London. Cyclist did nothing illegal, driver and passenger of the Audi both broke the law.

  • Is this a serious suggestion that it's against the highway code for more than two cyclists to be alongside each other at a junction?

    Amazeballs.

I think they explain it better than I could.

Can't really see how you can support either when both are wrong.
