• Ahhhh, I see I'm out Twickenham way, the dude doored me on purpose. I was wise to it and only clipped the edge of the door. Hope you get sorted alreet boss.

  • If it gets him arrested then at least it might shit him up a bit and make him think twice about doing it again.

  • Yes it would. Arrest and process is the rightful punishment. I mean, if he stood behind you in Waitrose, and gave the same torrent of abuse and then proceeded to physically intimidate and bully you, would you let it slide then?

    and ^That

  • We* just had a driver interviewed having been served with a notice of intent to prosecute after a vey close pass recorded on a helmet cam. She was asked to attend the station and view the footage, after which she apologised.
The police had no real chance of a prosecution, but wanted to send a strong warning.

    • someone in my club, after lots of deliberation about whether to take the footage to the police

So I suggest going ahead and at least have him spoken to. Especially as the police are already interested.

  • What happens when you push that button? Aside from the obvious.

The bus die, and the driver have to get off and go into the back to restart the engine I think.

  • I wonder if pushing it any further would be a positive thing in the grand scheme of things.

He did the equative of waving a massive knife at you, it is worth it.

  • Interesting story on the BBC website - driver has been charged with attempted murder after knocking down two police officers. I don't doubt that the more serious charge is owing to the fact that it was police officers who were injured, but it's interesting to see some recognition of the fact that some drivers use their cars as a weapon, with clear intention to seriously injure others. If only aggressive driving towards those not in uniform was taken as seriously...

  • I think there was a case about two years ago in which someone was charged with murder for using his car as a weapon and convicted. It does happen, but it always depends on the evidence.

  • Not exactly dangerous driving but dick driving - I was cycling to work on Saturday night and there was loads of stationary traffic, I was going up the inside of it (I'd usually go up the outside but there's a central divide that people tend to stay fairly close to on this stretch) a guy in a Mercedes obviously sees me coming up the inside and decides that if he has to wait, so do I so turns his nose to block my way, far enough ahead for it to not cause me to have to stop suddenly or anything. What a dick though! It's one of those times where you seriously consider "has he been enough of a dick for me to cost him a few hundred quid in wing mirror replacement".

  • ^ Yes he has.

Edit: Would I hit his mirror? No I wouldn't. But I would not think (that) badly of someone who did.

  • I'd fold his mirror in, neatly, to allow myself to pass.

  • OK, that's a good compromise. In that it doesn't do any permanent damage, yet would probably really annoy him (or her?). It is usually the case that people like this do not like you "touching their car". They see it as a personal affront. I got told once to not rest a styrofoam cup on someone's car as it showed "lack of respect".

Edit: Checked the original post, it is a him.

My most likely response would have been to bump up the kerb, go round him, bump down again, have a good look into his windscreen, and laugh at him before riding off.

  • What happens when you push that button? Aside from the obvious.

Just that, engine cuts off. Brakes and electrics still work... As ed said driver needs to get out and reset switch before being able to start up again.

Can be immensly amusing, although obviously I've never done it...

^ oh and jumping on the curb is always a silly idea, usually when someone pulls in to block route it means there's room on the right...

  • Not always a silly idea. I am sure I have heard accounts of people popping up to avoid being squished by lorries. Yeah, they should not have been on the left anyway but still.

Seriously, I generally ride the curb, and don't use pavements as shortcuts... but I would do it in this case, just to get the chance to laugh at the guy. Might not always be able to go round the right, depends on traffic.

  • Not always a silly idea. I am sure I have heard accounts of people popping up to avoid being squished by lorries.

These people would be better off waiting behind till it's safe to go forward on the right.

  • These people would be better off waiting behind till it's safe to go forward on the right.

Considering the speed you ride at Ed, I'm surprised you don't consider that a lorry could catch you up! :)

  • These people would be better off waiting behind till it's safe to go forward on the right.

A digression really but, yeah, they should not have been on the left. But, if you were on the left of a lorry, and it looked to be moving toward you and you were going to get squashed, would you, (A) not move, as you should not have been on the left anyway or (B) do whatever, including jumping on the pavement, to get out of the way and save yourself from becoming roadkill.

Me, I would do nothing, and make a note to self to not move up the left side of a lorry next time. No, really, I would, my life is a litany of poor decision making.

  • I agree, if I found myself in such situation, that'd be the action I'd take.

    With railing however....

  • Bigger hop.

  • ^ This.

    Bunny hop the lorry.

  • Railling? Just get all Danny McAskill on it.

(not sure if that is how to spell his name, too lazy to check)

  • I would have hopped the curb but there wasn't one, just a railing leading to a drop, I should have gone round the outside, popped a sick wheelie, flipped him the bird and chugged a beer, but before I could do that traffic started moving again.

  • just a railing leading to a drop

Going up Finchley Road, just before the Waitrose before Finchley Road and Frognal tube?

Just a guess, because, for some reason, I had that stretch of road in mind when I read your first post. Don't know why.

  • Nope, Bournemouth sea front! Ha ha.
