• oxford streets not that bad to me either,

upper brook is really really busy, and really really thin and closed (the part i used to ride anyway) and no one seemed to understand that cyclists use the road, unlike in london where they generally give a bit of room, upper brook st drivers used to pass closer than i'd like someone to stand near me on the tube

  • I don't think Oxford Street is really that bad either, it's just annoying and generally slower than another route.

    This.

    Oxford Street is very predictable.

  • Is this being confused by upper brook street in Manchester being parallel to Oxford road and upper brook street in London being parallel to Oxford street?

  • yeah i think so.

  • Is this being confused by upper brook street in Manchester being parallel to Oxford road and upper brook street in London being parallel to Oxford street in Manchester being parallel to upper brook street and Oxford street in London being parallel to upper brook street in Manchester?

    yes.

  • Also, part of Oxford Road in Manchester is called Oxford Street.

Although helpfully, this part is not parallel to Upper Brook Street.

  • Lol, I thought that was happening with rogan's comment, but didn't want to presume...

Oxford road (mcr) is one and two lane traffic with more busses than go down Oxford street (ldn)... Both would make good direct routes between points if it wasn't for all the traffic and lights.

Brook street (only one block of it is called upper brook street) in London is a bit of a rat run, but I ride in the middle of the lane so people don't overtake me at all on that road. Upper brook street in Manchester is a dual and triple carriageway with massive lanes (if it's still the same as last time I visited) you can't take the whole lane because it's so wide it's still possible to be overtaken when in the middle of the lane (slight exaggeration)... Do other towns have an Oxford st/road parallel to Brook st?

  • It widens up when you get past the hospital and Plymouth Grove joins it, but that section gets really crammed up with traffic and is pretty narrow, you also get cars parked on both sides of the road

  • Hmm my memories are all of riding the big bit, even though my house for three years was round the corner from there in longsight...

Maybe it was so bad then that I've blocked it from my mind!?!

  • You probably went down Plymouth Grove to Longsight. I ride that way home from the pub now, used to live in Longsight too, down Daisybank road.

  • I lived up just off hathersage way at the A6 end so went down there most days,

i gave up and took plymouth grove in the end

  • Ha! I lived on argyle avenue, which is a couple of blocks from daisy bank.

  • my house last year backed onto daisy bank!

  • There was a primary school behind my house on Daisybank, did you live there? Were you one of the bastards stopping me from going to sleep when I got in from a night out?

  • Nah the other side of the primary school, eston street.

I was probably stumbling in around the same time

  • Ever frequent Jilly's? I may have served you beer.

  • I only went to jillys for 14+ events as i was a wee young'un while it was open

  • Arrrgggghhh.

Just got off the phone on the non-emergency number to report the following cunt:

After stopping in front of him at some traffic lights, the lights turn green and shithead in the white audi just behind me passes me as agressively and as closely as possible - seriously I haven't had a pass this close in years.

Of course he immediately stops at the next lights 3 seconds later. Foolishly giving him the benefit of the doubt I pull alongside him and actually very politely and firmly state that was very dangerous and please don't pass cyclists that close. This is of course met with a torrent of abuse and threats revealing the close pass was completely deliberate because I'd stopped in front of him at the previous lights and held him up for all of 0.75 seconds and he needed to punish me / show off to his girlfriend / compensate for his tiny, tiny penis. He then drives off as the lights change.

5 seconds later he stops at the following lights. As the lights have only just turned red I decide I'm going to stop and get a photo of his reg. Remembering in cases where drivers have denied their presence and got away with it I stop in front and try to get a photo showing him clearly in the driving seat. He then of course attempts to run me over, despite the lights being red. Fumbling I don't have time before the lights turn green and he pulls around and drives off, just giving me time to get a shot of the back of his car with reg.

Icing on the cake? The taxi driver who pulled alongside me during this, blocking the traffic behind him, to threaten me with a slap for ... blocking the traffic.

Guess I'm going to have to start using my CountourHD again.

  • What a bunch of grade A cunts.

Hope the police follow that up seriously fella

  • I just remembered on Friday one of those private ambulances that have previously been discussed pulled in on me, hit my bars and still kept moving in forcing me to hop the kerb. I'm not really sure why except that the driver was a cunt, he definitely knew I was there.

  • ^ they're seriously fucking mental everytime i see one i slow right down so it gets away.

  • I hate it when that happens, because it makes me swerve across the road, and the only way to steady myself is to grab the engine cutoff switch.

What happens when you push that button? Aside from the obvious.

  • Jezston, where are you based? I had a guy in a white Audi do something similar earlier this week.

  • Maida Hill - this happened on edgware Road.

Without warning a copper popped over this evening and took a statement. However having calmed down since yesterday I'm not sure whether to proceed. The officer certainly wasn't discouraging, but knowing it's my word against his, that he's not based in London, and that any next step would involve him being arrested, I wonder if pushing it any further would be a positive thing in the grand scheme of things.
