• VeeVee mine is clipped vertically to my rucksack strap (righthand side), quite high up near my shoulder using the crocodile clip attachment. Its pretty steady there, and looks kind of like an iPod shuffle, so sort of stealthy.

  • That's what I did (and liked it there) but it only shows the tarmac and my front wheel :) I will try again. Jaygee has put it on my helmet, not sure I like it there!

  • I atttach mine to my helmet. A combo of the 'T' mount included with some string and blu-tack. Works realy well and you don't have the vibration you'd get on the bike. Also has the advantage of being able to film what you are looking at.

I've been playing with angles trying to get it right. Unfortunately I got it very wrong tonight otherwise I would be posting footage of REG HOLLIS !!!!!out of The Bill pulling out in front of me (along way off) and then stalling his car half way accross the road. He smiled and waved sheepishly as I sat there waiting. I fucking love the bill.

As for charging - I find the wall plug to be the best. I charged it via the USB at work the other day and it winked out very quickly. Did the same journey after charging with the wall plug and it worked great (although it was shot at a crap angle)

  • I have managed to attach it better to my rucksack. Great stuff.

  • Where do you post your videos and how do you edit them?

I have been watching this guy's videos on youtube by the way.

  • I complained to TFL because a bus pulled out in front of me, and after I kindly explained the rules of the road to him, ( I actually only said, could you use your indicators please) he gave me the bird, twice.

I've just received a reply from TFL which is actually reassuring. It's long so I've attached it, but just to say, if you're going to complain, take down ALL details, time date location reg and the route number.

    EDIT: Upload fail. Ar$e.

  • I have been watching a few videos on youtube of a commuter's adventures in London. He uses a front and back camera. They can be very interesting and this one is hilarious.

  • I started off thing that it was a bit ridiculous to ride around with a camera, but having watched the vids, its actually a great idea.

  • Is the above (VV's) posted clip captured on the the mini DVR sports 80 camera?

If not, how does the quality compare?

  • Helmet cams ... kinda like a black box recorder for your death :s

that is very funny. cocky little sh1t.

watching close calls on helmet cams still makes me shudder a little.....

  • @ LPG

I think I'd have to disagree.
If you've seen my bag it has an orange Guantanamo badge pinned on to it:

What is to stop the users of these cameras getting something saying this bicycle has a camera automatically recording. Surely this could stop the majority of bad drivers in advance (esp professional drivers), minimizing conflict in all but the most unhinged of drivers?

    • it would work both ways, curbing the potential rash reactions of angry, agitated, wronged cyclists?
  • [QUOTE=Pifko;1470650]Why upload this?:

    just under 15 minutes? nodder.

  • I started off thing that it was a bit ridiculous to ride around with a camera, but having watched the vids, its actually a great idea.

I have felt ridiculous and geeky this week using the camera. I have not achieved much as I am trying to find the perfect spot for it and I am afraid it will have to be mounted on my helmet. But so far:

    • I asked a driver to put her phone down and pointed at the camera: she became absolutely livid and dropped her camera down her top/bra.
    • I feel calmer
    • Jaygee - who is generally ahead of me- shows off even more (races nodders, takes his hands off the handlebars, looks cool in general).
    • unfortunately I missed capturing a cyclist undertaking a lorry that was turning left when the light changed to green. It was unbelievable but great skills from the lorry driver who checked his mirrors and waited for the cyclist to eventually passed him by.

That guy's videos on youtube are great (he is a bit of a show off though :). He filmed the cycle path on Vauxhall Bridge and the LCC have put it on their website. It is pretty scary and really show how pointless and dangerous that path is.

    • it would work both ways, curbing the potential rash reactions of angry, agitated, wronged cyclists?

    ^indeed.

You do get used to it to be honest. I thought I looked a complete twat (and probably do) but to be honest when chattign to other cyclists as I cycle in not one has appeared to notice it - if they have theyy probably think it is some sort of light given its size.

I can recommned the MUVI extreme sports pack £5 (rather than the £20 elsewhere)on Play or Amazoon http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/11912152/Veho-Extreme-Sports-Pack-For-Muvi-Camcorder/Product.html?_$ja=tsid:11518%7Ccc:%7Cprd:11912152%7Ccat:Accessories

It has a lot of the mounts that are included with the 'copy' but thye actaully work and they have some 'fabric' mounts which are good.

That said if you don't mind looking slightly daft (although no worse than wearing lycra) using string, blue tack and an elastic band works brilliantly once you work out the correct angle.

Oddly enough I feel a lot calmer too. It's odd.

  • Thanks Olaf! Really useful.

  • Just bought the ebay one, and am looking forward to the comedy potential also. This could bring a whole new 'spotted' thread!
Anyone got the card from ebay or any cheap recommendations?
Khornight2, I'm bring this shit to polo, be warned!

  • I looked at the cheap eBay cards, but the feedback left for most of the sellers suggested that they were either fakes or second-hand (being passed off as new). I got a legit SanDisk one from Amazon for about the same price in the end.

  • +1 Konijin I read reports that using the cheap micro sd cards really impacted on the quality of image. you got a much more 'stuttery' picture rendering it a bit shit. With the hc ones it works a lot better.

  • Just ordered one of these cameras. Thanks.

Here's one of my dangerous driver stories. Looking forward to getting them on camera in future. Will just tape it to my bars I think.

  • FWIW, I have a cheap Chinese clone of the MV80 camera off eBay. 11 quid shipped from Hong Kong and seems to work nicely - certainly beats £50+ for the official one. Currently waiting for London Hackspace to fix their Makerbot so I can make some nice custom bar/seatpost mounts.
