Report bad, distracted and drunk driving directly to the Met here:
https://secure.met.police.uk/roadsafelondon/
The form looks pretty easy to use!
Would be interested if anyone has used this and any known results.

Cheers for the info hael - especially about the cement. I'll be tryign that.
I got two of these having read about them on this and other threads. Tried it out tonight and they are ace.
If you see this I have a few questions though.
Having sealed the unit have you tried it in very wet weather? If so how did you get on?
You mention 8gb micro sd cards but the (badly translated) info on the disc says the max is 16GB. Have you tried bigger than 8? I only ask as my daily communte might go over the 8GB.
Thanks

I got one of the dv80s too and tried it out on my commute on Friday. Its really good value for money, the quality of the video really surprised me and its so simple to use. Really glad I bought it. I've got an 8GB card in it at the moment, but my journey is only 30-40mins, so plan on deleting after time to space free.

I did my first commute with it this morning and it's brilliant. Fortunately no incidents but I can read all the number plates, recognise faces etc. The sound's good too, although I sound liek some sort of pervert because all I can hear (as well as traffic noise) is my heavy breathing.
Apparently the trick is to get a decent, i.e. fast micro SD card

I am tempted to get one (or two).

Do it Vee, they are awesome. The instruction manual that comes with it is next to useless though. On which note, does anyone how long it takes to fully charge? At the moment I'm using the wall plug attachment, but even after hours the lights alway stay green/red - are they ever meant to change to green/green?

Description says: "When you’re done, stick it into a Windows (2k, XP or Vista) USB port (1.1 or 2) and download."
Does anybody know if it shows up as a mass storage device? Or use it on a Mac?
-

I use it with a mac at home and pc at work. Same on both, shows up as a storage drive, just open the folder and play file.

Cheers C.
Here is a link to the download page for AEE. Not sure if there will be any difference between the PDF and the manual.
Here is the DV80s product page
edit: The PDF download is simply the simple instructions and a picture of the box.

Charging time: not sure I did it for 3 hours last nght before this morning's use - I had the same problem with the lights - there is room for three blue ones and the red one at the end seemed to stay on.
It should last for 2 hours but judging from the recording it seemed to spark out right at the end of my commute* - probably about 33/38 mins all in. There was still plenty of room on the micro sd card. So perhaps it takes longer than thought. I'll leave it plugged in at work and see how I fare on the way home. (* now realise that this might be because I put it inot voice activation mode and as I entered our silent basement it switched itself off).
As for recognising it as a mass storage device - it doesn't seem to work on my home PC nor my work one. I pull the card out and use an adaptor to read it (which works). Not quite worked out why it doesn't work. There don't appear to be any drivers on the disc that look sensible.
The manual is a work of genius...

Yeah! I am going to bore everybody with "watch my commute on youtube".

To Report or Not?
Just had a very close call on Old Brompton Road. Range Rover from nowhere nearly T-bones me, I swerve and hit the deck pretty hard. Somehow I'm OK.
But, at first the guy accepted no fault, but once he calmed down and I could speak properly he apologised and agreed he should have checked again. I have his details, he has mine. and I have a lady who thankfully stopped to be a witness as she saw everything.
So, I think the guy was shaken and WILL lookout next time but should I report him still? Dunno.
I'm erring on the side of not reporting and hoping that he wont see cyclist as bastards but rational people! Sorry if this makes no sense, just a little rattled. -

Ffs
report him
this is the point that we will not put up with careless clumsy inattentive cunts risking our lives
-
• #268
should I report him still?
You don't report him, you report the crash. And yes, by all means do.
-
• #270
Cheers People, am still a bit shaken and while he was not admitting any wrong doing I had a discussion with him and asked that he makes sure he double or triple check.
But yeah, funny how adrenalin works. Starting to get a bloody stiff neck and my left wrist really not happy.
@ Konijn, thanks for the link. doing now.

:D glad more people are getting them
Olaf - I havent tried 16Gb but it does say they will work, unfortunately the battery will run out before you fill a 16Gb but at least you will get the full two hours.
Konijn - I delete the footage when I get into work and when I get home if there is nothing to keep, means I have a free full card for each journey. also you have a slightly different model from me I only have red/blue led,
red flashing is recording
blue is on
red solid is writing to memory cardI have noticed in the packaging it recommends that you dont use the wall plug and you use the usb cable to charge (?) also when you unplug them from the cable after charging you have to manually switch them off or they will stay on and go off after the idle timeout wasting about 15 min of your battery

My motorcylist colleague wants one too.

I tried mine tonight and it's great except I don't know where to attach it. I put it on my rucksack but obviously only get the tarmac and not the road ahead. Can anyone post pics of how they've attached to handlebars?
Cheers
PS: I told a woman to get off her mobile phone and pointed at the camera, I felt bad she really looked upset. -
• #274
don't feel bad - they endanger you! it sickens me when you see people reaching down for phones, clasping to neck so they can't see etc., completely oblivious to their surrounds. While driving their 1.5ton shopping trolleys.

I can't get mine to work...
i have two.
yeah I have two of these DV80's (front and back) they are fantastic devices for £12.
to try answer some questions.
they charge via usb
batt life 120min aprox
11min = 1Gb footage
so no need for a card larger than 8Gb (8Gb=88min | 16Gb=176min) at the mo 8Gb cards are £10 and 16Gb cards are £30
They record sound and video you cant turn off sound recording.
you can read number plates from a good distance.
the footage is date and time stamped.
720x480 res 30fps
all the accessories in the box are shit apart from the gel sleeves which you can loop some velcro round the slits (for a belt?) and attach it to your head tube and on your seat tube if you have two.
you can set the date and time by doing the following:
in notepad, write
[date]
24/5/20010
14:05:00
Naturally submit the correct date and time.
save and name it as TAG.txt
Then copy it in the root of cam.
(you need to adjust manually for day light saving)
you can seal them yourself using that stuff in your puncture repair kit ;) I use the rubber cement to seal all my lights too, works a treat
