Wow indeed.
i agree that in a town or busy traffic lifesaver is a must. if i am overtaken by impatient car driver in a dangerous way, i usually chase after him/her, get in front of (usually after first/second set of traffic lights) and then position myself in the middle of the lane so i cannot be passed. if driver starts arguing, i politely (that depends on the situation really) explain why i am doing it- i just hope that next time they will think twice before make any risky manoeuvre
So you've just discovered a bad/dangerous/reckless/impatient driver, so you chase after them, and place yourself right infront of them?! U mad?
Best possible course of action is to do your best to stay calm and carry on cycling and concentrating on the road ahead of you. You certainly won't be teaching a driver like that ANYTHING by antagonizing them. All you've done there is possibly pissed them off further and put yourself at risk.

first of all, i do not jump in front of them out of nowhere especially while riding. as i wrote, it usually happens at the junction/traffic lights so there is plenty of time to catch the car that had stopped anyway. i get in front of so they can not go anywhere and if you talk polite and explain why you are doing it, in 8 out of 10 cases it works and makes them to say (at least) sorry. maybe next time they will think twice before they do the same thing to someone else. in my opinion it is better to teach them on the spot rather than kick the side mirror and ride away as some of the drivers just do not see cyclists. they look, but do not see. it is like becoming transparent or what? drivers will be more orientated against cyclists if you damage their car and cycle away though god knows how many times i just wanted do that anyway...

I was in a car recently and against the patina of the street, the movement of people, vehicle brake & head lights, posters, vehicles, rotating advertisements seeing a relatively svelte silhouette of cyclist can be really tough.

probably best you don't drive if you struggle with that. I think that is one of the reasons cyclists get the problems they do, drivers are just not concentrating enough. Look at the number of drivers who hit into other cars, which you would think are pretty difficult to not notice!

agree with you Hinata - Sensi, why put yourself at such high risk? If that driver has cut you up at lights, there's a pretty strong chance they've seen you and by that very notion very much of the situation. You racing after them is inflammatory, at this point, whatever lesson you're trying to teach puts other road users at risk so you cause more problems for the greater collective. OR when in the traffic system are you hugging the kerb so tight they mistake you for sign posts and lamp-posts?
Personally I think you're off your lips for acting this way, I understand the methadoligy in imparting cautionary words but actively chasing them - It's made you angry, the driver's already pissed off and further up the road some innocent peddlar will feel the wrath of your actions. Risk factor = not worth it.

Meh, had a boxing match with a window a few days ago. Lucky for the driver the match was a draw. This is my lane, fuck off and find your own lane you twat

Nothing wrong with that. I assume where the driver was turning right the superhighway was a dotted line rather than continuous white line which means drivers can use the blueway.
Still a twat though...
Don't forget that the Superhighway don't come in effect 16 hours a day.
Still a twat though...

I think it's 18 hours, not sure exactly.
Bobbo, mind explaining why there are cars parked on the Superhighway if that's not the case? rather than posting a gif in reference to Groundhog day?
-
• #1288
Ed the gif is there to try and convey my confusion at your post, no reference to groundhog day whatsoever.

• #1289
You realised today is groundhog day as well, right?
-
• #1290
didn't know don't care.

Mmmmmm now to figure out a way to route Andy MacDowell (preferably up the wrongun')

Groundhog Day is maybe the best Buddhist movie ever made: An unhappy man escapees Samsara by accepting suffering and putting aside his own desires. As he ceases grasping, he takes on the role of bodhisattva, serving those around him. In time, he achieves nirvana, escaping the karmic cycle in which he was trapped. So we repeat the ancient chant: "Don't drive angry!"

I was always taught (motorbike) lifesaver over shoulder, move into central position ahead of apex of bend - same on bike, echoing what is said above
The other night had a WVM revving his engine behind me, aggressively pulling around me only to pull straight back in and slam on the anchors so he could dutifully take up his position in 'the queue' - always a pleasure, never a chore...thanks WVM
Sorry about that, I just wanted to get to the back of the queue so I could carry on with my text messaging.

Anyone know if there's an equivelant to this Roadsafe thing for places other than London?
I'm in Glasgow and a mate was involved in an incident today, no injuries or anything but he wants to report it but we can't find how.

i had a traffic incident with a car driver this morning on my commute..
piteh the popo were not out in force doing speed checks like they did yesterday
along prince albert road by primrose hill. they would have nailed this bastardsilver mercedes estate ML02 TCK..
a very close shave at high speed just prior to the left turn into albert terrace it appeared that he wanted to beat the red light whilst avoiding the usual
tailback on A5205 heading towards gloucester gate junction..anyway, while i gathered my composure at the lights.. i cruised on to said junction
left into parkway nr northbridge house school and waited for him on regents park road..bingo he pulls up.. i insist he rolls down his window.. i said that i would be reporting him for dangerous driving to the police and that his idiot move could have injured or killed me.
he zoomed off without a word.. i don't feel smug, i was very matter of fact.. i wanted to call him a cnut, i was shaken not stirred -

Hope you're ok Al x
Just used the same for the 1st time. Had some woman drive **straight at me **this morning, on the wrong side of the road on Thornhill Road this morning and then get really aggressive with me when I asked why she was doing it. Sigh. I usually shake off being cut up/people driving out at junctions/general near misses but I'm so tired of people being aggressive with me and this really shook me up this morning. And why should people get away with it?
Not sure what will come of it but at least if she does it again there should be a note of her doing it before.
Wow. Bet that calms them right down.
