  • whats involed in a "skip-scavenge", please?

    i'm also intrigued :)

  • Well there are a few daft people in Dulwich who clear houses into skips without thinking that they're throwing perfectly good things away. Yesterday I spotted a skip with 2 bikes in, gonna see if there's any useful components. I'm after a 26mm seatpost.

  • I took the easy option today....... ;p

oo, where in Dulwich? I might be after a beater / polo upgrade!

  • HEAVY!

good good. i was a bit worried that you're a credit crunched city gent and scavenging for food

  • Gridlocked down in Woolwich - abandoned buses - slushy stuff and a steep hill don't mix.

  • New-fangled? Thah's had thum for years oop north lad.

Thah was just a short 'un but when it makes it home after 30 or 40 mile at t' weekend it's like nowt else.

One of them new-fangled homing bikes eh ?
    Tsk, I dunno,
Whatever will they think of next.

  • HEAVY!

oh don't be a nancy! It's perfectly fine, you can see the road.

  • Cheers. I don't mind white vans that don't beep at me or try to kill me so you should.
I'm trying to be nicer to motorists so if I do call you a cunt tell me off!

    @fox
i've seen you out and about a few times too. i've only ever seen you whilst white-vanning it about the place so figured you'd probably call me a cunt if i demanded a skid.
    ace bike. congrats.

Landcroft Road. I'm heading out now, will report on how much is left ;)

  • The Canal this morning fully frozen over,
It was an easy ride home actually only about 4 other people and the refelection from the snow made it very bright down there, when I got to the road it was chaos.

  • Gutting, only wheels (mtb) and a mountain bike frame is left.

In other news: Whilst that was fun, a lot of fun, I certainly don't recommend going out on the residential roads of Dulwich. Checked out Lordship Lane and it's packed with cars and buses (and idiot black cabs OVERTAKING people who are sliding in the ice).

Barry Road is busy too, and is also still very very snowed up, despite it being a road for 3 bus routes(... wtf?) so I guess it's a no go if you wanna get somewhere.

  • These conditions are no hassle at all. I'm more concerned about tomorrow when it's frozen. All the idiot Strange Rover owners will switch to "Snow Mode" and then proceed to charge around thinking they're much safer because they're in snow mode. God help us all.

It's already starting to freeze :(

  • Oops. I'm inside and it's and have battoned down the hatches!

  • Yep. mostly fine but by the time I got to N16 some of the roads had started to get packed snow turning to ice ruts. Ok but dont change direction quickly.

There's still some muppets out there who think bags full of throttle/slides is the best way to deal with the conditions.

BTW, I was glad i was fixed when slowing for round-a-bouts and other junctions.

  • Well the ride home was fine until Herne Hill Station/Dulwich where I had to walk the last quarter mile. Could have ridden it all if it wasn't for the total lunacy of snow-panicked drivers - the car that gunned it over a piece of sheet ice at about 25mph and slid while overtaking me (within an inch of my bars) was the last straw in a long line of dumb and selfish behaviour I came across.

    .

Bad for some, good for polo. Any idea what and condition?
Although, I'm about 4 miles away and wouldn't be able to get there in this weather.

  • Well that was interesting. Rode home verrrry slowly, geared on fat slick tyres with very questionale brakes (old steel rims). Lots of heart stopping moments, particulalry when big kahuna 4x4 turned into the side street i was emerging from at full tilt on the wrong side of the road. Made a dive for the kerb and grabbed a bollard while yelling at the blind lead-footed cunt who almost killed me.

It's slushy and clear in parts out there but i get the feeling it's starting to freeze again and as there's so much water about it's going to be treacherous later/tomorrow morning. Careful now!

  • I had to get off the bike going down in Liverpool Road as a woman in a car tried to ride over me and other cars!!! she was coming from the left in a junction and seemed pretty convinced that she wanted to go faster than anyone else... Just a few meters after a bunch of kids started throwingsnow balls to everyone, included the poor cyclist (they hit the target very well)...

  • tomorrow morning gonna be fun

  • Main roads were all fine. Road between Clapham and Brixton was pretty bad, where the slush has turned to ice (I mostly rode on the other side of the road). I walked from Brixton to Herne Hill. Definitely be careful if you're going on anything which isn't an 'A' road.

Looks like we had a similar experience. Too crazy!
