I went through Liverpool Road and was very slippery.. I thought that Upper Street would be better!

Made it home to Forest Hill in about 2 hours, too many loonies and too much compacted slush for my skinny tyres a lot of the way. I was cheerful as I had my christmas lights on and met various happy people, including rounce of this parish heading through Hatcham/New Cross on his little white bike with pink bars.
Here's my bike after I got home

Had a *very *sketchy ride down to Brixton via Herne Hill, had my back wheel go out a fair few times though kept control as I was going pretty slow!
Ride back was fine though (after seeing Avatar at the RItzy) as it had rained, however the ice left on the roads was pretty rock solid, and when I got to my road which isn't so busy with cars it was still icy de-la-fuck , and its getting pretty cold again. Tomorrow could be fun.
Still, managed my first ever ambidextrous skid, so its not all bad! -

Thank fuck for wide moustache-style handlebar.
riding home was pretty breezy, the simple trick is to try and staight upright without leaning or anything.

and avoid pavements, and try not to have a puncture like i did 5 miles from home. No buses, no trains would accept me with a bike... and i didn't have my pump !
1st time ever i forget to have my pump with me and the 1st time ever i have a puncture in the blimmin worst weather all year. thanks Tynan you cunt! :) -

The Canal this morning fully frozen over,
It was an easy ride home actually only about 4 other people and the refelection from the snow made it very bright down there, when I got to the road it was chaos.
Is that near Ladbroke Grove?

A thousand plus one on pavements, shouldn't even be riding on pavements either way! I saw lots of cyclists lose it on pavement thinking it's better than the surface of the road.
least the road is more predictable.

when your doing deliveries on your bike, even riding up so you can dismount is pretty dicey cos it's so icy.

Sounds like we all need fixed wheel trikes... for stability and a bit of drifting.

What about some stabilising bars clamping from your frame to another bike? So you'd have two bikes upright, about 1m between the frames...then, it's a four-wheeled drift machine for two! As long as you can steer together, and have friends. cycling on ice would be less terrifying.
Edit -- Sorry, missed the (much better) comment about fixed trikes^^!!

Went down this morning at about 1mph on my street whilst nodding to a guy on a nice green track bike. Massive fail but thanks to the drivers(and the guy ont bike) who asked if i was ok. Absolutely fine but ego damaged.

What is it like on the roads at the moment? Ok? Any ice?
My street is really icy and there have been cars sliding up and down it, but it's a quiet side road, haven't ventured further yet.

Main roads are pretty much fine if a bit slushy and gross
Every side street i've done today was pretty bad depending on the road surface. Most of the streets round my way in arsenal have gates at one end which makes them nice a quiet to ride on but pretty dodgy today where cars have left tracks in the snow while parking which have then frozen.
Its pretty warm out today so lots of melting going on, bbc says a freeze tonight so could well be pretty slick tomorrow... -

one advice - mudguard.
It's not very pleasant to get your back and legs covered with black slush puppies from the road.

I noticed the snow thread, it was full of haters. This is for the lovers!
I got to the end of my road today in my van and it was chocka with traffic. I parked up again outside my flat, (no parking tickets today haha) got my bike and rode the 2 miles to work. Cut through the traffic without a problem, a bit slippy, no incidents and skidding in the snow is magic! There's over 6 inches here in aberdeen now, can't wait to go home.

I'm so stoked about the snow (I made another thread I'm so stoked), like 8ball says we've got shitloads and more to come. I feel so smug haha compared to all the fuckers stuck in there cars!

Gutted I missed this, drove through the snow on the m3 and manged to get through just before the motor way was closed. No snow on south coast, which sucks.
