We're all a rainbow now mate. Ignore racial differences, enjoy your Note.

Can you buy a GiffGaff sim in a shop?
Does the unlimited data cover wifi hotspot for using the pc?
-
• #8079
Pretty sure unlimited data doesn't include tethering. Don't know about picking up a sim from a shop.
-
• #8080
Does that count as tethering and how does it know?
-
• #8081
I think so, you have to buy one of the data only goodybags to use it with anything other than a phone. The type of device is identified when loading a website - its how mobile versions of a site know to load, and giffgaff will be able to access that data. (This is an incredibly bad description of how this actually works)

But then they couldn't tell if I set my Galaxy to be a wifi hotspot then browsed using my also Android tablet...
-
• #8083
Three mobile told me that they could, how true that is i do not know.
It was £2 per month to "enable use as a wireless hotspot", which I thought was reasonable, being 77% of the price that LMNH charges for a coffee

I don't even want to use it much, I'll probably use about 100 Mb max, I just want it on a bigger than my phone screen and not near wireless or ethernet connection.
-
• #8086
I might just use my normal data allowance and wifi hotspot to my laptop. I rarely use my full 1Gb allowance anyway.

A tablet would identify itself differently than a phone or a computer, so in theory they would still be able to tell

In related news, the Note is massive.
It updated itself to Android 4.0.3 last night as soon as I connected to my home wifi, so it's up to date.
Anyone have an idea as to why scrolling is so jerky- is this a known fault with ICS?
-
• #8089
This explains it better than I did:

Google maps works offline. It will only save a map of a certain size but I've got a map of London that goes as far out as st albans.

in google maps, go to settings > labs > turn on map cache
then select somewhere (whilst on wifi) and cache the 10 mile area surrounding.
awesome.

Note, now I've had it 48hr:
S Note and writing / sketching - great, this is going to be very useful
Battery life - poor, at less than 24hr, will be finding out how this can be improved. Don't want to get the larger 5.4Ah battery because the bulge destroys the look of the unit, plus the rather nice leather case will be redundo
-
• #8096
Which case did you get?
It works brilliantly as a sat-nav in the car, just make sure to plug it into a power source.
-
• #8097
Indeed, functionality is very good. Have read up on xda dev forum about battery saving tips, so i'll give them a go.
The case is a Samsung one, leather with a lizard effect textured finish, adds a nice weight, texture and smell (?!) to the device > [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Leather-Flip-Case-Galaxy/dp/B0079YFPZK"]Samsung Leather Flip Case for Galaxy Note - Lizard: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics[/ame] < takes a little patience to click in all the very small catches though
i think with your white unit it'll look, err....pimpin' (did i really say that... :/ )

I bought a cheap one- and 'tis crap as there is no cut-out to allow stylus access.
Buy cheap buy twice, as the insufferably smug tend to say.
-
• #8099
My red leather one was cheap, but well made, with all the cutouts. Robust too.

^ buy cheap, buy twice..
but if the battery life cannot improve (i'm not going for the hideous guppy belly protrusion option) then this phone will be moved on..
Maybe the black one is a myth?
