Don't they have locked ROMs?

Velocio went back to his Galaxy Nexus 'cause his One X kept dropping calls didn't he?
It's also too big.

Other than that, it's amazingly fast, light, good battery life. I am however wondering, what on earth do people need a quad core phone for ?
Two word; planned obsolescence.
iPhone is a perfect example of that, once the 4S went out, the original 4 end up feeling a bit slower in comparison due to a software update.

Root the desire - saved £150 quid and £150 won't get you a better phone.
200 quid probably will though. One-V is just over 200 quid..

Agreed, I'm in the same position, I have a Desire and have been looking to upgrade. Sensations are going for £180-£240 and to me anything cheaper isn't worth the upgrade
Really? Might be worth getting Mal one of these instead of a One-V then..

Saying that I just went on eBay and there's a scratched one going for £160 and some half decent one's for £170 Buy it Now, might be possible to get one for £150 on auction...
No way I'd buy phones off ebay. Full of scamming arseholes.

My Desire was a nightmare to get rooted - I tried about three separate methods before giving up
Mine was easy. You sure you were using the correct method for your screen type?

Don't they have locked ROMs?
Well mine is rooted and runs a custom Modaco ROM.

Nope the HTC Desire is a piece of cake to root - first phone I tried and it worked first time.
Used Cynogen mod - probably the same I'd put on my S2 if I root underclocked CPU (but because of no HTC sense it was still as fast) and the battery easily lasted 6 days.

I've bought 4 phones from ebay with no trouble, although they've all been from established phone sellers rather than one time sellers. What's the scams out there regarding this? Selling then reporting stolen? Selling blocked phones?

Faster processors mean you can use less battery power, its a strategy known as Rush to Idle. Multiple cores can be turned off when not needed and generally, 4 x 1GHz cores will be easier and cheaper to make than 1 x 4GHz core, especially as power consumption normally scales linearly with speed but quadratically with the voltage, and you need more voltage for higher speeds.
Science thread>>>>
"squared" would have been fine. ;-)
I've been owed a phone a vodafone for fucking months but can't decide WTF to get
<<<<I thought I'd wait for the S3 and see how it did against the oneX but then I had little play with a colleagues note....

I've still not got round to sending off my Glalaxy S1, it's a step up from a desire, not a massive one though but runs great on cyanogen.

Squared isn't an adverb!

Too big? The Galaxy Note is the new flavour. You're behind the curve fatty.

Galaxy too big to be used as a regular phone, One X is in my hand now.
doubleTwist have improved a considerable amount since last I used it on the Desire S.

I find the S3 just fine to be fair. Fits in my pocket and I even got a waterproof case for it.
The battery lasts me the day using FM radio, Strava & My Tracks for about 2 hours on the commute together with it checking emails all day via Exchange and spending a lunchtime doing quidco checkins along Oxford St.
It also lasted the day at Wimbledon from leaving the house at 6am to getting home at 11pm with the radio on for about 9 hours and a bit of light internet browsing over 3G. -

Every time I've bought one they've changed their mind, realised it's actually water damaged, sold me an unlocked brand new phone that's actually locked to 3 and used. Fuck it. I'd rather pay £20 more and get it from Amazon. Amazon replaced my dead Sensation within about 30 seconds of me contacting them via online chat.

I thought the note was too big. Love the S2 and even thought that was too big to begin with.

No, you're just so large and dense that light curves around you...

They sent me a white Galaxy Note, I asked for a black one. Oh well.
65.34 MB of 349.38 MB downloaded so far- firmware update.
What'll I end up on, OS iteration wise?
