Got a stock ICS on my Galaxy S2. Nice and smooth so far, but a heavy handed implementation of TouchWiz covers up many of the improvements.
Face unlock has already been demonstrated as shit, as it can be unlocked by a picture of me on an iphone screen.

I haven't even got ICS on my S2 yet!
Very impressed with the battery life now though too - with Juice Defender of course.

On the One-X, is it possible to fully turn off the HTC Sense theme and get pure ICS goodness?
I'm due an upgrade (which I don't even need), and the only 2 things making me pause are: the One-X has no SD card slot, and it runs HTC Sense... I can't fix the former, but the latter will swing it for me if I can disable it comprehensively.

Get it Spencey, I used my friends stock GS2 the other day and the difference really is noticeable.

Could you not root it and install just ICS?

Unless I root mate I'll have to wait!
Velocio - you can't disable HTC sense completely. You'd have to root it. Some aspects of sense I like, but it is a battery drain.

Being on the Galaxy Nexus today, I just don't see the reason to root. If the stock ICS is good enough you can avoid the whole chore of investigating which ICS distro is better than the other, etc and the time to do it all.
I'd rather just switch a preference that says "No, thanks".

Fair enough.

AFAIK the Galaxy S II certainly did receive the ICS update last night, well, at least to those on T-Mobile. I, er, sort of refused mine. I didn't mean to, but I was in the midst of bedroom activities, and postponed the update.......for a week. I hadn't meant to do that. Oh well, needs must, and all that.
Why couldn't the update have come when I was at work, and doing nothing, like everybody else? But no, it has to arrive when I cannot possibly be distracted.

I'm on tmob and still no ICS.
Tried scanning for it again.
-
• #7487
I tried many times to get it pushed through again, but nothing also. I guess I'll just have to play the waiting game now.
-
• #7488
Ah I've left mine on auto notify for now (normally I have it turned off) so hopefully it'll arrive before long.
Does it actually add anything new?
-

Others will have to answer this, as I don't have ICS on any of my phones. I somehow don't think it's that big of a deal though.

I updated via the slow motion car crash that is Kies. There was nothing available OTA.
-
• #7491
How do you update via that?
-
• #7492
http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as if you're windows. I believe there's a Mac version also.
Very slow, but it should get there in the end. Don't bother trying to backup using Kies, though. I've never been able to restore using a Kies backup.

I think I may have used that before - but I never downloaded anything it was just an adderss I had to put in to my PC, but that was only for file transfer not for update (I don't think)

kies is a massive pile of shite.
-
• #7495
Indeed, but it allowed me to update, so I've given it a pass for the moment.
There's always the option of Odin etc, but that scares the shit out of me since I thought I bricked my phone a couple of weeks ago.
-
• #7496
I'll wait for the phone - but may try kies tonight once I get in.
-
• #7497
Heimdall seems a little better that odin, kies has worked before for me, but be prepared to devote a few hours to it fucking about.

Kies is only useful for the phone drivers, other than that don't bother wasting an evening pisspotting through an update with it. Got the same notification from T Mob and deliberately refused it as touchwiz appears to be bollocks compared to the clean ICS I'm currently running (AndyX 10.1, yes I've flashed this fucker about 20 times now in 3 months).
Randomly T mob also sent out a notice yesterday that my line rental was going up by 3.odd %. I got mine on a serious retention deal due to poor customer service so I've told them to basically fuck off. I'm currently awaiting a call back. Wankers!!

Just updated from "CyanogenMod 9 alpha build 17" to today's CyanogenMod Nightly build, using Clockwork recovery.
A lot faster, no 5 second render wait on the heavier forum pages.

I love Sense. Why not stick with Google Nexus if you get on with stock Android?
Gotta laugh at this comment!
