Android phones, apps and tablets

  • A while ago I was playing around with android as a vm (testing x86 builds) whilst trying to load it on to an eee 701 which was eventually bricked trying to shoe-horn Haiku on to it.
Will just leave this sort of thing to people that know what they're doing in the future.

Put android on all the things!

  • I have an EE701- the original white 4Gb one, I bought it from Toys'R'us.

What would I have to do to install Android as the OS?

  • I had that exact model but had problems with the installer when it came to android, as in it didn't work. It booted off the USB just fine though.

I'd personally just use a mini USB stick that sits flush with the chassis and have a dual boot set up. Hell, it's probably faster than the internal storage.

It's a shame it can't boot from the sd card, that would have been great.

  • I bricked it by fucking up an installation of haiku os and then killing the bios, btw, android didn't kill it.

  • Probably belong in fail but:

  • I'd love to know how much they want for that.

  • Does it fit in your pocket though?

Yes it does. Very comfortably. It's smaller than my hand, obviously, and since pockets are designed for hands, then the Note was never a problem.

Big pockets for a big man.

I read there were some issues with picture taking whilst recording videos on the new HTC. Plus internal batteries and no SD slot?!

  • 32gb of onboard storage and internal battery means they have made it bigger. IPhone users have no problem with an internal battery. I never had a problem with the 4gb SD card on the desire so 32gb is more than enough for me.

It's charging now. Had a bit of a faff using the micro Sim and adapter to get my numbers off the desire but got there in the end.

Waiting for the charging light to turn green before the switch on.

  • Don't you use gmail to store contacts and just log into your new phone to update contacts? That's one of the best bits about android.

  • Yep.

I sync mine with gmail every so often don't worry about it all the time though.

  • If you're HTC to HTCing it does a bluetooth sync of contacts, which saved me a lot of pain 'cos my techno-idiot wife saved half of her's to sim (and it's now micro). I have the Samsung Nexus and got the wife the One-X and am now crying about my impatience....it's beautiful, no issues with taking pictures in video, the build is lovely, the screen is amazing, it's super quick, and just all round lovely, aside the keyboard which I think the samsung is better for, I'll definetley be going back to HTC next time.
Bit concerned about not being able to battery swap as we both had desires and a stack of batteries, which was v useful for work to party days, only time will tell what the battery's like, cannae imagine what you'd need more than 32gb for personally, tbh the 16gb in the nexus is never going to get filled up.
Apologies for the stream of conciousness review, bit busy at work!

  • WOW this thng is amazing. Will be a while before I know exactly how amazing .

  • I don't know whether this has been posted before but the pebble watch looks like it could be good and will be around the same price as the Sony smartwatch.

  • 11hours on battery including two episodes of the it crowd over WiFi in the netflix app, much faffing around with Sense 4.0, a couple of short calls and many texts and the battery is showing 69%. Not bad.

The lowest brightness setting is more than enough for anything but direct sunlight which helps. Sound out of the phone speaker is great. On the desire, I had to have the sound one click away from full volume when watching netflix. This only needs half volume

  • Good to see I'm not the only one watching netflix in bed on my phone when I've got a perfectly good laptop sitting there.

    This is the One X?

A few people on my fb have been going crazy over their new One X. Tempted to go have a play.

  • Yeah, One-X. Crazy town

  • 1800maH battery as opposed to Sensation 1530mah. Nice addition to capacity but I don't like that it's sealed. My only concern would be the increase in screen size.
Guy here is getting one so I'll wait to see it for a change.

  • Might get the HTC One-V.

Looks like a nice phone. Cant afford a flashier one :(

  • WiFi. Reception is much better than on the desire, which I thought was good. Can get the work WiFi from outside and 2 floors down where I couldn't before.

  • Ok. I'm impressed.

    :-)

  • I don't know what that means.

  • Holy shit!

    Asda have an android app!

  • I don't know what that means.

spenceey, have a look at some older benchmarks, as it shows the progression of power increases for phones. The benchmark of 4961 that stevo_com posted, compares with (for example) the original HTC Desire score of 1239.
