With the manufacturer, After the first year the retailer has no obligation to handle the warranty.
I hadn't known that. I'd thought everything sold here in the UK came with a standard one year warranty.
No 3G? Meh....
There are 3 versions/models. **
This one is the 3G model**. -

Basically if you buy a product that is faulty in the first 28 days (might be a 30, was 12 years ago when I was a retail manager) you are entitled to a full refund. After that most retailers will handle the repair up to a year. There was some guide lines to how long was deemed reasonable to handle the repair. But ultimately the warranty is with the manufacturer. Mobile phones which are subsidised my contract are usually dealt with by the network provider.

My understanding is that all white goods sold in the EU come with a 24 month Manufacturer warranty - 12 months with Manufacturer, 12 months with Retailer. Your contract of sale is with the Retailer, not the Manufacturer. If a failure occurs within the first 12 months and is deemed to be as a result of a defect from the manufacturing process, the Retailer has an opportunity to repair first, or provide an exchange or refund - they then take it up with the Manufacturer. After 12 months, it's a Manufacturers warranty

Go for 3 out of 3. You seem to be on a roll.

OK I stand corrected, I was going by the spec as listed by John Lewis as linked above (on both counts!)

Lenovo are offering two 10inch tablets.
The THINKPAD Tablet is business and security oriented.
The IDEAPAD Tablet is more entertainment oriented.
I like both, though I feel the SONY S may have the edge on the Lenovo IdeaPad.

I like the look of the ThinkPad ones, but honestly- how fucking much ££?
These are probably built extremely well, have a bang up to date specification, and a terrible stench of failure already pouring off them.

Anyone know of any good deals just now? I get a phone allowance of £15 per month from work (and sick of getting work calls on my own phone) so looking for a cheap contract plus free phone if poss, of approx £20-25 a month - hope to get a better handset than my Desire and put my personal SIM in a new handset, and use the Desire for work

Asus Eee transformer tablet (and added keyboard)
I bought one of these.Logic was i started wanting an ipad2 but i didnt want to use itunes. I wanted to be able to sync with my pc and drag and drop files.
I wanted to buy a new laptop but wanted it to be transportable and usable around the house (i have a behemoth 17.5" laptop that might as well be a desktop)
Previously i looked into netbooks but i wasnt 100% thrilled by them. Then this caught my attention. Tablet and attachable keyboard turning it into a proper laptop. It also has a slot for a micro SD so i have doubled the size of the tablet for only about £30. And it has a USB port which apple has neither.
So far, its a lovely machine. Powerful for all my needs at the moment. I am struggling using the file manager and the drag and drop though. But i think thats simply cause i am not used to the OS yet.
Keyboard doesnt always communicate 100% with the tablet. But i have bought thumb keyboard app and makes using the tablet on its own a lot easier. (recommended for any tablet that you need to hold in 2 hands).
Battery life is epic with the keyboard attached (about 16 hours). The finish on the Transformer is lovely. I much prefer it to the ipads finish. Build quality is also very good.

Laptopsdirect.co.uk now £416 (which sadly is a saving of £134 from when i bought it) since i paid £550
Apples iPad2 (32gig version) is £480 (*but without the keyboard obv.)
Asus Transformer (32gig version) is £390 (*also without keyboard to make comparisons equal)And if you add the £28 for a 32 gig micro SD makes the 32 gig Asus = 64gigs for £420 and the 64gig ipad2 is £550

What a coincidence. I was looking at this exact model and few others from Asus yesterday for my girlfriend who is looking for a fairly powerful tablet to replace her laptop.
Apart from the above Asus Eee Transformer, Slate also looks good. It's on a bulky and pricey side but relatively powerful.http://eee.asus.com/en/eeepad/slate/features/
Samsung is also releasing a range of powerful tablets

Warranties are different beasts, and retailers / manufacturers will often attempt to obfuscate the rights of the consumer by calling on terms of warranties.
Yep, this.
This happens on such a regular basis that a culture has grown up around this idea that company/store policy is practically law.

Did I say anything about windows?
Nothing is holding you back from running Android ported to x86 architecture (unstable at the moment) or even better install Linux. AFAIK those tablets will have the same hardware as Samsung laptops which means popular and well supported distros like Ubuntu will have all the drivers. Ubuntu is also multitouch capable.
