The wind is slow by comparison. Unless it's gusting ;)
I'm impressed it lasted that long, my Desire wouldn't have got that far... but maybe @Fox you cycle like the wind :-)
Well I thought as I'd only be out for an hour or so it would be ok...
No sriously I forgot to turn it off. I don't actually know how to switch 3G off but keep 2G on. How do I do that? I needed the phone on to take texts and stuff.
I can get a couple of light days use from the Wildfire without GPS too, from what I've read their battery life is about the same.
Yes, a huge difference.
WTF do you leave wifi on when you are riding for 75 miles? Also 3G uses loads more power than 2g so unless you need fast 'net set the phone to only use 2g.
If you don't need the map data or the phone itself, just the GPS, you can even set your phone to Airplane Mode.I'm curious to see how long I can get using the GPS on the Desire now. I can get a couple of days light use without the GPS.
That would make sense too, I also forgot to do that.
Another battery tip is to only turn synch on when you need it.

home > menu > settings > wireless & network settings > mobile networks > use only 2G networks
or you can get home screen widgets that will do it

Ta - I think I will get Tasker to do this every time I switch the GPS on.
Tasker FTW.

Even better, now when I run my tracks Tasker switches the GPS on and switches off wi-fi, auto sync and 3G.
Then when I quit my tracks it switchs off the GPS and switches everything else back on. Awesome.

Sony Ericsson pushes Android 2.1 upgrade for X10 family back to 'late October'
This makes so little business to me. Sony Ericsson launch a great phone, and totally fail to give it the support it needs. Even though the coming update makes the phone even more attractive, a lack of Froyo 2.2 means that it fails to compete with the best phones from other manufacturers. Sony Ericsson are losing potentially 100,000s of customers and potential customers with this strategy. Its bizarre.
Even still, the X10 makes a great phone for games, and media playing. But its the saving-apps-to-memcard and pinch-zoom functions that leave it trailing. Even if their next Android phone rates better than all the others, the hard-done-by customers won't be very forgiving. A capable phone, ruined by incapable decision makers.

i'm mega tempted to convert my htc hd2 from win to android 2.2 or froyo. anyone have any experience with this and is it something i can do myself.

Hasnt hippy said that the ROM from the HTC Desire HD has been transferred to the HTC HD2, but there was scant memory left? Work in progress I think.
-
• #2866
no experience, but it should be easy, especially now that the Desire HD, which is exactly the same hardware, has been released.

and specifically how to:

The reviews when it came out said that it lacks the hardware needed for pinch to zoom, might be what is stopping them investing anything in the X10?

Yeah the hardware wont support multi-touch. Also there was talk of a soon to be announced new SE phone, which might make the X10 a dead duck at this point.
Also, can someone explain the fuss over pinch to zoom? I can't see the point. Multi-touch is great, as it makes the kb much more useable, and I'm sure it has other benefits but it seems like the one feature that everyone complains about is pinch to zoom which seems like such a minor thing

Sweet idea, I'm doing this. I will make a homescreen icon called RIDING MY BIKE or something to do it.
It could even turn on bluetooth, pair to my headset and turn on an app to read inbound sms out using the speech synthesizer.
I love tasker.

I don't want to sound like an idiot but if you only have GPS on and then get home and want to map the route does that still work even if you haven't had 3g/2g on when riding the route?

If you have any Tasker how to's for common tasks, be interested to see them?
-
• #2873
Anyone know of an app/widget that allows me to view my MP3's and assign them as ringtones. teh "ringtone" widget only lets me access teh defaults and no longer has an option for other mps's since I upgraded the software.

What is the best map/navigation app?
Is there something akin to that of the iPoo??
The maps on the hTC almost made me throw the phone into a passing bus once, frusfukintrating!Inbuilt Maps on the Desire are pretty good. Turn GPS on for superior accuracy.

Anything particular you're interested in?

that video of the desire hd makes it look immense... the little features are incredible... i have never understood why google maps doesnt cache the maps that you have already downloaded... it should defo save the last 2 weeks worth or something... an excellent addition for the dhd..
Still not convinced that i will move from galaxy s to dhd though, i cant see it being a move up, looks more like sideways whioch is a bit pointless... that said i am already frsutrated with no froyo release from sammy as yet and the leaks being a bit rubbish as the devs fopr galaxy s are nothing compared tot he ones working on htc hardware...
