  • So how come the update was labeled gmail but the app is googlemail?

Um.. either you downloaded something else or they changed the name?
Where are you seeing Googlemail? Mine is called Gmail.

  • I get the same when I receive emails from some peeps on Gmail also. I get <...@gmail.com> and <...@googlemail.com>. same person and mail addy!

  • Google had to use googlemail.com in the UK because gmail.com was registered to another company already.

They've since killed anyone with any knowledge of the previous gmail.com sorted that out I believe but some people obviously still use googlemail.com, since it's what they know.

yournamehere@gmail.com and yournamehere@googlemail.com will both work, they are for the same account.

Nope my app is called googlemail I don't even have an app on my phone called gmail even though I downloaded it.

  • Maybe they abbreviate it for Aussies to make us feel more comfortable. Localisation ftw.

Do you have a @gmail.com or @googlemail.com email address (not that it should make a difference)?

  • Nice bit of business for that company I'm sure!

  • ^Remote control of phone stuff is amazing.

  • Yeah, HTCSense.com ftw. I love the remote calling and backup options. It's a nice bunch of features they've added there. Paul from Modaco is working on porting the DHD rom to Desire and N1. I think he's done it but it leaves the phones very low on memory.

  • I know. I have to say though after going for a ride with a friend with a Galaxy S the other weekend it really is very nice and has impressive battery life. I'd charged mine fully overnight but with my tracks on it died about 2/3rds of the way round our 75 miles. His went all the way and had 9% or something left.

I now think right now my dream phone would be the Galaxy S with Sense UI. It's all about that screen and that battery...

I told you to buy the Desire. :P

Well that's what they said before I bought it! I got that update, it's a minor one unfortunately as the hipster says.

Fox I don't think you'll be waiting long for the Froyo update. Its supposed to soon follow the Desire's Froyo update, so should be within a matter of weeks.

I've found this on the HTC site, and can't tell if its a major update, or actually the Froyo update.

*Update – HTC Wildfire Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update
You can now download the latest software update for new features and improved performance. It won’t delete any of your content and we’d recommend using a Wi-Fi connection as this is a large update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. Any questions? Contact us via *www.htc.com*. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Software number will be 1.25.405.1
Update Information: 1. Enhances support for Facebook status display when dialing; 2. Increases support for Google Services like Google Talk, Android Market and others; 3. Improves combining contacts from Outlook and other source
Note: We still recommend you back up your all personal data first. *

Techie-bods may help out with this. (MrW)hippy?

"P.S. This is not an update of the operating system. The exact release date of Android 2.2 for HTC Wildfire is unknown."

  • What else did you have on along with the GPS?

  • 3G (obviously), wi-fi - could have turned that off I guess, would it make much difference?

  • It's another radio drawing power, I reckon the answer is yes.

  • I'm impressed it lasted that long, my Desire wouldn't have got that far... but maybe @Fox you cycle like the wind :-)

  • 3G (obviously), wi-fi - could have turned that off I guess, would it make much difference?

    Yes, a huge difference.

WTF do you leave wifi on when you are riding for 75 miles? Also 3G uses loads more power than 2g so unless you need fast 'net set the phone to only use 2g.
If you don't need the map data or the phone itself, just the GPS, you can even set your phone to Airplane Mode.

I'm curious to see how long I can get using the GPS on the Desire now. I can get a couple of days light use without the GPS.

I'm not proud, wanted to call myself something else anyway! Start the rumour, 10% for you, lol

  • Turning wifi off when I'm not at home or at a friends, definitely shows a better improvement in battery power!

  • What is the best map/navigation app?
Is there something akin to that of the iPoo??
The maps on the hTC almost made me throw the phone into a passing bus once, frusfukintrating!

  • Is there a way to view the TFL cycle hire map as a layer in google maps?

  • Another battery tip is to only turn synch on when you need it.
