After my much loved G1 finally gave up the ghost I got round to getting a Desire.
Have to say I'm massively impressed - things have really moved on.
Whoever mentioned Gtasks - cheers. It was exactly the app I was looking for to synch Google Tasks properly.
One (possibly dumb) question for Desire owners. Can you change the settings get the phone to wake up from timeout by another method than pressing the power button. E.g. pressing any of the buttons at the bottom of the phone? If so, how?

good one, I'd be interested in this too, for some reason I find it a bit of a pain doing this via power button

Cheers Hippy.
Might root it in the future but I also found an app that does this. It's called Nolock. So there you go Eightball.

Might have been me?

:)
Also:
Meanwhile, the Desire HD is apparently putting up some hardcore benchmark scores on the strength of its updated Snapdragon MSM8255 processor, posting a Quadrant score of nearly 2,000 -- about two-thirds better than a Froyo-equipped Nexus One.

I've been trying this new Keyboard app, Ultra Keyboard. It has a whole heap of customisations, and can do tracing like swyype. I also find it less laggy for input than swype.
Just digging through - gesture options, so you could swipe to delete the last word, and up to toggle caps lock.
You can theme it easily, and it has great predictive spelling. You can also dl dictionaries straight from the kb, and it will do translations as well.
At the moment I'm experimenting with the 1/2 kb below, and swype style, which seems to give the best of both worlds as its fast, still more accurate than t9, but with larger keys than a full kb.

well worth it! -

Who was it that linked me to rooting Xperia 10?
It wasn't me, but this looks easier than some other methods.
http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/08/07/root-your-xperia-x10-and-x10-mini-in-one-click/
Just checked for more info, and it seems it works for some, but not for many. Also, doesn't work with standard UK settings. So definitely hit-and-miss.hippy will know if its any good or not.....I'm hoping he'll chime in with sage words.

...The X10 is still the phone I want, more than any other. I'm thinking its a 50/50 shout, as to if SE do implement the Froyo upgrade on the X10.
On the one hand, they need to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S (for spec), and Dell Streak (size); and on the other hand, they don't want to update their X10 so much, that their 2011 phones will sit on the shelves, unsold. Its a tricky one.
In fact, when thinking about it, it makes sense for SE not to update the X10 so much, or no-one would buy the......follow-up?
...Loads of rumours on the internet now, regarding Sony Ericsson's next big Android phone. It looks like it could be called the Xperia X12. It should have a cpu rated at 1.2-1.5Ghz, and run Froyo to begin with, and update to Gingerbread. If its a much modified X10, they will be able to keep some manufacturing costs down. At the moment, the X10 is still one of the most expensive phones, but the OS is dated. Sony Ericcson do need something special to compete with the HTC Desire HD, and upcoming Motorola Droid X (if released in Europe, and if that too is updated to Froyo), and the Samsung Galaxy S (ver.2, which is inevitable).
So apart from the excuses about Time/MediaScape being "just as good as" Eclair+Froyo, we can see why SE haven't truly updated their phones.
They know that a (by then, cheaper) Froyo flavoured X10, would harm sales of their future phones.http://www.prlog.org/10926413-selectamobile-sony-ericsson-so-01c-xperia-x12-rumours-indicate-slim-powerful-device-on-the-way.html
