"Their Instagram feeds will look far more premium than all of theirs friends and it will give the appearance that they're living a far more premium life than anybody else..."

    • Peter Gauden, Huawei

I'd be happy with a fucking 30 quid burner thanks. Tosser.

  • "Their Instagram feeds will look far more premium to the Chinese government than all of their friends and it will give the appearance to China that they're living a far more premium life than anybody else..."

  • Anyone have experience with the xiaomi mi a1? Or any suggestions up to £250

  • So my Nexus 5X has died in the same way as all the other ones on here, leaving me with the same question, whats a good, ~£300 replacement option. Good camera ideally

  • Yes great phone had mine for awhile, great piece of kit for the price. Make sure if you install the google camera om it as the stock one is rubbish.

  • Any recommendations for a cheap 10 inch tablet. Will be used almost exclusively for watching Plex and various other videos on flights and in hotel rooms (most of the stuff I'm watching will be 720p). Needs:
    Decent battery life
HDMI output (can be mini or whatever)
    Takes MicroSD card
    Light
    Under £100

Anyone any suggestions or selling anything that fits the bill?

  • Been in touch with LG? They fixed mine even though it was out of warranty.

  • LG should fix a broken 5X or send recondition replacement... they're quite used to it by now.

For around £300, you could look at Huawei P10. Decent enough mid-range phone. Superior to a 5X in many ways

  • They refused to do mine as it had a cracked screen. Said I had to have that fixed by a specific company first, and they wanted £120 for it. Cheaper to pay the excess on credit card insurance and get a new one. Grrr.

  • I'm thinking about getting the xz1 compact - is that site reliable? it's £100 less on there than carphone warehouse.

  • I've used it. It's a bit weird with little communication but the phone turned up promptly.

Paid by PayPal with the option not to pay until after delivery.

  • I got my phone from there, as did my mum and my wife. All fine. They are Grey imports, so consider if that's an issue for you.

My wife has the xz1 compact, and loves it. My mum and I both have the full fat version and are very happy with them. All of them came with both a UK plug, and a converter, as they obviously often sell phones that have EU plugs.

  • XZ1, loads of problems initially, forum passim. All cleared now. A great little phone.

  • Do you reckon they are new or refurbished?
The main reason I would get one is for the waterproof rating and I worry that is lost if they've already opened it up?

  • Mine from there was certainly new. Grey import though (came with EU charger).

  • New.

Grey imports from Hong Kong/China (or that way) I would guess, but to EU specs, and with UK chargers on all 3 of the Sony's I've seen.

  • Perfect.

I had a quick look and there seems to be only one model of the XZ1 Compact so seems like there can't be anything funky with it apart from the charger.

A perfect upgrade form z5 compact now that the headphone socket has busted twice.

  • My wife has the xz1 compact, and loves it

How's the bloatware situation these days? Had a sony a few years ago and hated it for that reason, hardware was fine as I recall.

  • I'm basically like everyone else, torn between a few £3-400 models. Narrowed down to Pixel 1 or xz1 compact now I think as I don't like the larger screens everyone else uses.

  • Without root you can disable a lot of their apps. If you never log in to them you always get a bail out option if you accidentally open one too, since you have to agree to their terms before use. Basically, in practical terms the Sony bloatware didn't get in my way.

  • Really not that bad. There's a small amount, but some of it is useful.

I did swap the launcher to Nova Launcher eventually, but that's a coming from a oneplus one with CyanogenOS on it, and I wanted some of the tricks from that back.

  • These seem to be £135 at the moment, should I get one now or are they always that cheap? They've just announced the A2 so perhaps why the price is low

  • Thanks Drem & hippy
