  • Right, my contract is up and three are offering me 'as a loyal customer' exactly the same offers they're offering to everyone else on their website.

I'm currently on the One plan with a Galaxy s3, want to go SIM only and keep the S3.

I don't *need *that much data, but it's nice to have, same with the minutes. I could realistically go down to 600 mins, loadsa texts and 2Gb data but they're unwilling to go lower than the £15.90 quoted on the site. This riles me. Also, only their one plan comes with 4G data, their other tariffs are 3G only (not an issue with the S3 but I may wish to upgrade in future).

I get generally ok signal with three, but no signal whatsoever in my house in walthamstow and none at my parents' in herts. They've given me a signal booster which I leave at my parents, but I wouldn't mind moving to a proper network with actual signal.

I've looked at virgin mobile, as I'm a virgin media customer but apparently their customer service is awful.

    Wat do, lfgss?

Any ideas? Better suggestions than this?

  • What's with the new play store permissions list? It makes no fucking sense to me.

I've had a few apps I've not installed updates for since they want more permissions - the old one used to highlight which permissions were NEW ones. Now it just gives some vague list of permissions the app requires. WTF?

  • ^ Chill out Ozzy. Do do realise GCHQ and NSA doesn't actually care about you even if you are an immigrant...

In other news my N7 2013 has just got the 4.4.3 Kitkat update.

  • My sanfransico is finally put to rest.
The digitizer on the replacement screen I fitted is no longer working.
    Ordered a new S4 mini
Currently only a backup WEP phone.. its like living in the 90s

  • Poo! Feedly has died since the DDOS. It's supposed to be up and running again now but I cant make it work and Ive cleared the cache. Im actually going to have to visit people's websites again! #Firstworldproblems

  • Feedly is working fine for me today. Got it open in another tab.

I'm more interested in preventing these apps monetising my data without my consent. Now permissions are fucked I'm not updating shit.

  • Nexus 5s are £250 on carphone warehouse.
Rumours a nexus 6 (rather than Silver) to be announced, and CPW are clearing old stock.

  • £250 as a clearance price...

  • Tempting, considering I still haven't changed the screen on my SGS3, but £200 would probably be the "yes I'll buy one" price.

  • It will cost me £140 to get my N5 screen replaced.

Being more than half the price I could get a new one for is a PITA

  • Might as well go for the new Moto G. It is for £160 but not available till 30th June.

  • I have to say, the camera that updated with 4.4.3 takes amazingly better panoramic shots, the method of lining up to the blue dots a la photo sphere makes a lot more sense and has produced some really good panoramas, just in time for my holiday too

  • Is there a way of sharing the photosphere results instead of just flattening the image?

  • Google+ I believe

  • is there a good online site for sim-free unlocked new smartphones, somewhere I can buy something cheap but new (like a Huawei) to use with a giffgaff sim?

Gf's trusty San Franscico just got stolen, after something similarly cheap and reliable.

  • Expansys

  • I've been using Privacy Guard to limit what facebook and facebook messenger can access. For location, I haven't set it to "always deny" because sometimes I like to check in and let other people know I'm doing something totally badass and they should be jealous. I mean, what else is social media for? Anyway, this means that every time the two apps request access to my location, a pop up comes up and I have to allow or deny. Fuck me, they really want to know my location. Each request has 3 popups, they both request when I'm not even using the app, and you can't interact with anyone without it asking for your location. Scrolling your news feed and liking posts is OK, but commenting, clicking "read more", looking at pages, they all trigger a location request. Even as someone who works in business intelligence, for a digital marketing company it seems like an extreme amount of intelligence about each user.

  • Is anyone using an external USB memory stick with a nexus 7?

And if you are, have you had any problems recently?

My nexus is rooted and I was using stick mount for the external device and Solid Explorer to manage the files (which I really liked until it stopped working).

I was having problems copying the other week and a few days ago I updated my device. Now Solid Explorer just won't recognise the USB stick. I tried Total Commander, but that just sees my device as the USB stick.

    Any ideas?

  • Wheres the cheapest place to get a sim cut down to fit in a microsim device?

Don't trust my own handy work with sissors

  • £1 from one of those market stalls

  • Depends which operator you're with, but the easiest way is to pop into one of their shops and they'll give you a new micro-sim for your existing number.

  • Finally upgraded to 4G. Fucking hell, better than a lot of broadband connections
