^^ you can just flash a stock recovery, install the ota then re-install the recovery.
installing an ota on a non-stock recovery can be bad, i had to wipe my phone last time I accidentally said to install it, that was just running stock google play rom and twrp recovery.

My Moto-G has suddenly started refusing to a) charge and b) recognise the SIM card.
I've exhausted my repertoire (turned it off and on again), what to do?
I'm flying to Norway first thing tomorrow morning, so this is inconvenient to say the least.

Yes, read that- so I've got to wait for the battery to fully discharge, at which point it might start working again.
This would not normally be an issue, but Matt is currently driving to Norway, and the only means of communication we have is my phone.

What do you want? Magic dust? Get another phone.
Did you try the safe mode option? Factory reset? Did you try another SIM?
-
• #14857
Following the instructions on that page I can't get it into safe mode.
Tried the SIM out of my work phone- and O2 is fine, so that looks like Three is FUBAR in W1.

Fuck.

Do THREE have a network status page?
-
• #14860
neil have you considered getting an iphone? they just work. :P

My (work) iPhone is, currently, just working.
Three have this as a network status page: http://www.three.co.uk/support/network_and_coverage
Which says:
"There is no planned maintenance in your area at this moment. Kindly, have a look at the tips below or contact us."
But the O2 SIM worked fine, and I've always had decent Three reception at my desk before.

Use the work phone.

Can't get my personal number onto the work phone, or I would.
Full factory reset of the Moto-G: no change, still not charging.

Buy a £20 Nokia.
-
• #14865
Tried that, they won't work with the (3G only) Three Network.
I suspect I'm going to have to buy a decent new phone, directly after work.
Unless anyone, in W1, happens to have a spare in their desk?

just nick one off someone smaller than you, by the time they get it blocked you wont need it anymore.
-
• #14867
What do you mean? Three don't sell cheap phones? Rubbish.
Aren't you going to be on a roaming network anyway?
-
• #14869
^^^^ Probably too late, but can you actually push the charging cable all the way into the phone? Worth using something to see if there is a build-up of lint stopping the plug going all the way in and engaging the contacts for charging

"NSA grade security" isn't reassuring.

Any of you care to fill me in on what key differences between running a vanilla Android (a la Nexus) handset versus one running CyanogenMod currently and more importantly in the future? Considering going down the OnePlus route but not entirely sure what the implications are, particularly now that Cyanogen is a startup and might be looking at routes to monetise the operating system. Any thoughts gratefully received

Cyanogen'll be faster :)
