can you not just convert it to loose balls and add an extra couple?
@Scilly.Suffolk Yes, you can. Headsets don't need cages, they don't turn fast enough to make keeping the balls apart advantageous. The cages are there for the convenience of the factory, loose balls will increase the load bearing capacity because you can fit extra balls.

Im sure the mavic ceramics will wear slower

Thanks!
I got a bit flustered, what with a) having blithely ordered 5/32" and b) struggling to search for 1/8", not 1 1/8".
100 on the way from good old SJS: their balls are harder than Simply Bearings'. :0

In the rain the faux anno surface pretty much just falls off

Decent cable hangers for a 1" threaded headset? The current stamped metal one flexes like a bendy thing. Or can I use an uphanger with Weinmann centre-pulls?

Didn't realise you had the technology at home to distinguish between two balls both of which claim 60-67 HRC :)

Should work. I have a silver one I was planning to use for that very purpose you can have if you like?

Am I right to think Newbaum cotton bar tape is sold at LMNH?
I finish (hopefully) at 6, any London shop closing at 7 do this?
Cheers! -
• #82961
Don't know about lmnh. But Ben Thomson's Cycleworx, Southfields seems to be (stealth edit) showing stock and open til 7.

Let's see what Mr. Rychtarski has to say about his choice of threading.
I am thick. Paint in M6 threads. As you were...

[Edit] argh! So not on my way home, can't go there...!

Sorry buddy, didn't know which way you were heading!

I am thick. Paint in M6 threads.
The latter occurred to me as a possibility, but I didn't mention it because I foolishly dismissed the possible extent of the former :)

What's the standard diameter of the inside of a gear cable stop/external of a ferrule?
I've got a frame that had threaded cable stops for adjusters but they've been snapped off and stuck. I've drilled it out with something like 4mm. Looking at getting some Jagwire Mickey cable adjusters. -
• #82968
Not to worry, the adjusters look to be about 5mm
-
• #82969
Hmmm maybe 7
-
• #82970
Don't have a drill bit that size

I'm switching from Ultegra 6700 to Rival 1, am I better off keeping the Ultegra brakes or switching to Rival 11? I think the Ultegra are more powerful but will be compromised by different lever pull?
-
• #82972
You'll be fine with Ultegra brakes.

Was thinking of yes, or the silver.

Okay cool thanks for letting me know about them!
Of course!
Thanks for the reminder.
