  • also, whats the solution for allen key brake fitting and mudguard "eye" (its too small for the bolt). drill? theres also a problem saver innit?

  • but getting more a-c height would mean less headtube angle, less seattube angle = comfier ride..?

maybe njs's shouldn't be consideredto become practical

    #doingitanyway

  • tbh if I was in on that the first time round ildve gotten one.

now it would mean selling a frame and then spending more on a fork for the other one. my soontobeunemployed mind had actually the other thing in mind.
more space, more money = profit

  • comfier ride..?

If you want a comfier ride, get bigger tyres and check #whatpressureyourunning? Everything else is marginal gains.

  • If money's the issue I'd sell the NJS and get a Pompino, you'll probably have some spare change for mudguards then

  • okay okay, I remember the scoble adagium. I should be fine with clearance up to 28 at least with a different fork

  • if ild be on a real computer ild get a link to claud, the current sensible fixed. 50s claud butler with loads of clearance and running 28s with mudguards comfortably.

thing is, the njs was a bargain (front ended but frame ok) and has rainbow sparkles and what not. selling it would bring in not too much money and I will never find another one for that price.

plus, it is kind of fun to have an njs beater and getting all sensible with it.

I might end up just capitulating to n+1 and deal with the money with a strict diet of beans on toast. only complicating factor is a possible move abroad for which n-1 would make sense. as it now stands im just not riding the viv and I want to change that. lets sleep on it. thanks for the suggestions oh dear forumengers.

  • help me remember boyzandgirlz. more rake = more trail = slower steering right?

More rake = less trail = faster steering.

Track bike typically have slower steering.

  • Is there such a thing as a pedal that will take look keo cleats on one side, and then have a flat side for trainer use on the other? Or some kind of adapter?

  • So the other day I lock a bike to one of these major light posts they have in Camden High Street when a man approaches me, wearing Camden Council. "You can't leave your bike here; the council comes and takes them away."

  • Where can you source cable grommets?

Oval shaped for internal routed brake cable. Real cabling in housing, not Di cable.

  • I assume you mean something like this, but oval?

Could you not just run the full outer cable internally negating the need for grommets

  • Just got a new chain, but instead of having some kind of special quick link snap on plate to join it, it just has what appears to be a standard figure of 8 outer plate.

How the fuck do I put it on?

  • Just got a new chain

Which chain? Pix of what you have in front of you?

  • Flex the chain laterally

  • Like this?

    Flex the pins inwards.

  • The full cable housing runs inside the frame, but the hole in the steel is an oval shape. So without a grommet to seal the area the cable will rattle around and lots of moisture is free to enter the tubing.

  • Yes like that. SRAM powerlock is what its called apparently.

Tried bending the chain but not getting anywhere.

  • Hmm, odd. It's the same as KMC Z1X uses, but I just put both pins into the ends of the chain, rest the flat plate over one, then gently bend the chain towards the plate till it can pop over the second pin.

  • Got a chain splitter? this make it easier to bend the link to push the plate in.

  • I've never owned a television.

Am thinking of getting one to watch films on. I'd prefer a projector and sound system but there isn't enough wall space and I don't want to have to use a projector screen (either one on a stand that I have to store somewhere and set up, nor do I want to install a pull-down into our flimsy ceiling - nor do I want to look at a pull down for that matter). Next house I'll make sure we have a single big fuck-off white wall, perfectly plastered, to project on.

But for now it'll be a television.

Or does it? It needs to be able to connect to a BluRay player/Apple TV/games console etc, maybe an AV receiver/amp/cd changer etc. Is that a television? Or a just a big computer monitor? We don't have a TV aerial if that makes a difference (though do have a little Virgin wall box with some fibre outputs so presume Virgin would be the supplier of any TV service OR we would use something like NowTV which I understand receives signal from wifi). I would like to connect it to a decent speaker system in due time so presume it needs a particular set of audio-out ports (or are they much of a muchness?)

Lastly it has to be thin. I'd like it wall mounted on a chimney breast and don't want it to jut out further than a few of inches including any mount.

Any brands to look for/things to know? Any times of year / places to buy from? Surely 4K content still isn't there yet to make justifying a 4K screen worth it (have a 5k screen for video editing so there would have to be a lot of broadcast 4k footage to consider it). So presume 1080p. Don't want to use these horrible picture profiles that give horrible movement effects. Don't want 3D abilities. Just a nice screen to watch films on and play games etc. Image quality/colour reproduction fairly important but I mean that in terms of accuracy to original (like THX was for cinema standards) rather than these horrible hyper-saturation images I see in TV displays at Currys etc.

    Hit me.

  • Some 4k screens are pretty cheap these days, although if you want one that's got low latency for gaming then it will be a couple of grand minimum.
What you've really got to decide is how you want to get your media on the screen. Personally I have a 48in full HD but non-smart TV and use Google Chrome to stream movies/netflix ec. from a computer.
Also, it seems simple enough but sticking to a good brand name will usually mean you get a decent panel. Amazon reviews are useful too. The stock colour profile will generally be awful on any stock screen but people have put most online for how to set them right.
