tom, did you get my message?

Just replying now, taking my time to think about it!

I'm 5'4" and sumo is 6ft. The average is 5'8" right? I don't really understand feet and inches, silly archaic system.

If you can't do the base 12 system of feet and inches, how on earth do you cope with shillings?

THe average couple size theory is utter stupidity
Men are taller than women, the average height of a UK man is 5'10'', of a uk woman 5'5'', and the average is ..... ooh 5' 7.5''
Men must fancy shorter women! No Men fancy Women, who are shorter on average.
THe only way to find a corelation in height and sexual preferance would be between gay couples of the same ethnicity.
(I'm angry about somethign else)

No, Men fancy Women. Or maybe no men do fancy women, who knows?

um, no. it makes you about 5' 7.5"
am i 5'7 and a half? i am taller than i thought.

Height is just a number.

I dislike change a lot. I grew up with feet/inches for height mm/cm for work and gauge measurements for smaller stuff. E.g - for the height of a person I can imagine how tall they are in feet/inch but metric means nothing to me. In work (carpentry/signwriting) I can fairly accurately work judge up to around 600mm in 100mm increments but if someone were to as for a table with a 6'x3' top I would have to convert it to metric. Screw sizes have only recently changed so you will often find a mix of both on shelves. I know exactly what I'd use a 2"x10 screw for but I wouldn't be able to visualise a 5mmx90mm screw.
It could just be me but I found a similar thing among my friends.

That's not what the theory proposes. The proposition is that taller than average people will preferentially select shorter than average partners. The average per couple comes to 5'8" arbitrarily due to the average for all people being 5'8" in the study group, but the "average couple size theory" proposes that the distribution curve either side of this average is more sharply peaked for couples than for individuals.

Proposes it based on what?
I read it (the above post) as being proposed on the basis of the average couple height being 5'8'', my point being that that in itself means nothing. Obviously.
THe distribution in height difference within couples would be insightful, and its relationship with the difference between average male/female height might mean something.
Anyone willing to raise funds for this research?

You've never heard of 'small man' syndrome? Google it.
Nothing small here. Next question.

I have no idea; maybe data, maybe bullshit.

It would be interesting if the couple aggregate height were more concentrated about the mean than individual person height, since that would suggest that taller than average people preferentially select shorter than average partners (and, of course, vice versa). I think the theory, albeit poorly expressed, does propose that this is the case. As expressed, I think it proposes that couple aggregate height is always 11'4", which is demonstrably false, but I read it as implying that there is a statistically significant narrowing of the aggregate height bell curve compared with the individual height bell curve.

does anyone know why my freezer make a hellish roaring sound? Ok, maybe not quite but it's second hand, I let it sit for 24 hours before turning it on and yet it makes this whooping noise like there's a hurricane outside.

that was indeed a joke, the bit about width though, that's for real. Much more offensive.
I will admit, I prefer shorter (me being 6'2") like, quite a bit shorter.
Don't know if I like to be someone they feel safe with, or if I'm intimidated by tall women?
to be honest, it's not a deal breaker, if I like someone I like someone....
...not if they taller than me though! (:
