  • The first side I tried was the non drive side, take it it doesn't matter though?

English frame, I'm moving from a double to a triple hence the new BB.

  • Chains are cheap, pulling a rejoined chain apart with your starting effort has the potential to be expensive. Pushing a rivet back through the plate makes a very weak joint compared with the factory process. Just buy another chain and keep a long one and a short one available for any future gear changes. Or buy an extra master link to suit your chain.

Thanks, now I know I'm not just being fussy!

  • Non-drive side is conventional threading, drive side is reversed- so turn it clockwise to remove it.

Undo bottom bracket toward the front, pedals toward the rear,

I hope to god I am remembering that right!

  • Ah right. Would there be any reason why both cups say tighten and arrows point the same way then?

  • Not sure- picture?

  • The bikes over at my parents place - building it up there. I'll post some pictures up at the weekend when I'm over there.

If the worst comes to the worst I'll take the frame down to a local shop and ask them to remove the BB. Just a pain though that I couldn't do it (yet). I'll try the tips up there though for loosening it off.

  • Not sure- picture?

This arrow looks like clockwise to tighten it. Is left non driveside?

  • Yes. Non driveside/left should be conventional thread, then the right hand side/drive side is reversed.

    From that ^

The left side thread is a right-hand direction thread, which tightens clockwise and removes counter-clockwise. This standard is also called English or BSC. The right side (drive side) thread is a left-hand thread, which tightens counter-clockwise and remove clockwise.

  • Yep, so, left is conventional, right is reversed.

  • I don't know anymore. Its too late for this.

  • I think I'll go and pick up one of them tools which covers the whole BB cup rather than just part of it. Should have enough leverage from that to get it off.

    Only £14 from halfords;

  • Ah right. Would there be any reason why both cups say tighten and arrows point the same way then?

Unscrew in the direction that the cranks turn.

    Therefore:
    RH - Clockwise
    LH - Anti-Clockwise

  • I need some 28c tyres that aren't too pricey for my road bike, my girlfriends road bike and my fixed gear. Is there somewhere I can get discounts for buying three pairs?

  • If you had £1500 quid to spend on a road bike at either Halfords (grimace) or Evans which would you buy?

  • Bike scheme?

  • Bike scheme?

    Insurance payout

  • Spend it at Planet X

  • Have to use vouchers unfortunately, don't think Planet X accept Halfords vouchers =/

  • Hmmm... Reckon a Boardman might be more bang for your buck...

  • Boardman are great bikes for the money are they not?

  • That was the one I was looking at TBH but I dont really know much about the brand it's good that 2 people have already said that its a possibility! Anyone heard anything bad about them?

  • They get stolen lots!

  • probably because lots of people buy them from halfords where they are also offered a nice range of liquorice whip locks to secure it with
