  • Know someone running one through a MBP and they've had no problems... I may be in touch...

  • Can someone tell me how to do the following . . . .

I am upgrading my 3GS TO a 4S - I have held off doing this because my Macbook is too old to upgrade to the OS required to sync with a 4S, and i dont want to buy a new laptop just to get my phone to work.

Anyway my Mrs has a brand new iMac, highest spec you can get - what i want to know is can i set up as a user on her computer, and transfer my iTunes account and music across, thus enabling me to sync my new phone and not loose any of my data.

I have about 400 gig of music, so ideally would store that on a seperate hard drive so as not to clog her computer up.

    Anyone help?

  • Yes - you can use Migration Assistant to bring all of your stuff onto her machine. Probably easiest to do it with a firewire cable and boot your Macbook into target disk mode.

In the itunes/Preferences/Advanced pane, you can set the path of your itunes library to be on an external disk.

  • can't you just sign in as another user, then setup your itunes account ?

  • I just want to make sure that the Itunes on my account will be seperate from the itunes on her account

  • Different user is what you'll want to set up... I "share" my MBP with my GF who has her own user with iTunes and desktop to leave a whole hellish clutter of files on...

External Drive is probably your best approach with what you want to achieve, and yes you can have multiple accounts and they will be separated in terms of purchases etc.

I run mine like this with my wife and son on a IMac with no problems

  • My wireless keyboard hade some wine spilt on it, now a few of the keys don't work. Anyone know if this is repairable? Or do I just buy a new one?

  • Leave it in the airing cupboard for a few days? Don't turn it on.

  • don't know if it's a good idea with wireless keyboards, but I once spilled a pint of beer in one of these

It all got really sticky and stopped working. Rinsed it under a tap for a good few minutes and left it to dry for a week, worked perfectly after

  • nNopethespacebarandbackspacestilldontwork.

    Bugger.

  • That works for any keyboard.

Unplug, remove all power (batteries if wireless).

Leave off for 15 minutes to cool down electronics and RAM to clear (if it has a USB host).

Then rinse under water (no soap).

Then dry in a cupboard for a non-insubstantial time.

    Should work.

  • Right. I'll give it a good rinse. Thanks.

  • The key is the drying time. If you turn it back on when there's even a single drop of water still inside somewhere... it is dead for good.

  • prob worth to use bottled water too? Can't imagine the lime scale from tap water to do it any favours?

  • Ionised water is best right?

  • Distilled probably...

  • the very best thing would be to not use water... mineral oil is good... but hey, I'm assuming you want to do this for virtually no cost as a way to see if you can avoid spending money on a new keyboard.

  • Pretty much. Three repair places said they wouldn't touch it. Okay will look for some of that oil.

  • Noo... tap water is fine, don't spend money on anything.... just let it dry for a very very long time after you rinse it.

  • Hi Mac heads,

I'm not a mac user so a lot of this is foreign to me, however my brother in law has just given me his old PowerBook before he toodles off to The States to begin a new life.
He's happy for me to get rid, and that is my intention.

So, how much would the following second hand Powerbook G4 be worth, and would any of you be interested...?

  • Drying a phone out in a bag of rice works well ... if you have a bag big enough it'll work for a keyboard as well :)

  • This Dell monitor is fantastic... It's huuuuuuuuuge!!!

    2560x1440 FTW!

  • just found a really old school ipod (the wheel actually turns!)

does anyone have an old style charger (i've got the cable, just need the power pack) that uses a firewire connection?

  • Quite possibly, will check my box o' crap...
