  • Work iMac just died. Shut down and won't turn on.
Holding the power button, you can hear the disc drive turn over once, then nothing.

    Any suggestions?

    Graphics card is probably gone.

  • I'm about to pull the trigger on a new 15" MBP, FaceBook is very slow on my current machine...

Anyone know if MBP updates are on the horizon? Should I wait a little longer and just put up with the lag I'm experiencing on my StumbleUpon account?

  • Joey, i think its time you learnt how to suck your own cock.

  • outta the blue i know... but trust me its worth it.

  • ^^^ its not even Friday.

    Power supply?

  • Power supply?

Can't be if the disk drive turns over.
And I've tried with another cable.

Have you checked it's plugged into an electrical socket?

    [blows raspberry]

Sometimes you don't get enough power, rather than none at all. PSUs are also the sort of thing that wears out.

Not sure if this is a joke or not, but yeah... updates soonish... and good ones too.

  • I'd be surprised if any big changes came through soon... the i5 / i7 refresh only came through in October last year.

Ah ok. I tried a different cable anyway and it was the same.
It's off for repair. I really hope they can recover my files.

  • Boom! New 2.5GHz i7 equipped 15" MBP coming my way in the next few days... Thanks to Tim Soul for the hook-up...

I can't wait to tweet and update my FB timeline with improved quad core speed... Sweet!

  • Are quad cores still the latest thing in laptops?

Haven't checked for a while, but I thought since my workstation has dual 6-core processors that perhaps laptops had caught up.

  • Facebook says no... I mean yes...

  • I wonder when they will. It's been over a year since I took my workstation to 12 cores, would be nice to see a well built laptop running 6 core processors.

I guess too few people need them though, and they probably would shorten the battery life.

  • Don't forget tumblr you need a high end pc to run that.

  • Just bought a Dell Ultrasharp U2711, same panel as a 27" Cinema Display but way less money...

    2560 x 1440 Facebook here I come...

  • Good luck getting a Mac to give you full anti-aliasing goodness and capabilities on a non-Mac screen.

That was the bane of setting up the last office with Mac Pros.
